Is this the year we lose to Air Force?

Post by Mars »

TCU beat Air Force by 3.
Utah beat Air Force in overtime.
In our last game against TCU and against Utah, they combined to beat us by 55 points.

This is the best Falcon defense I have ever seen. Max, as we all know, struggles against high-level defenses. And Air Force has the offense with the most in common with Florida State's run game/running QB that we will see this year, IMO.

Usually, we seem to match up well against AFA. Our slow white guys are bigger than theirs... plus we have more Polys.

But could this be the year that they finally knock us out of "The Big 3"?

Assuming we're healthy, I just don't see it happening. I like it when AFA is good and can make a run at things, but our rushing defense is quite solid this year and BYU typically plays the option better than most. If BYU is patient and feeds Unga and Tonga consistently, AFA should wear down. I don't see their defense being able to cover Pitta/George as well as TCU did. I don't see them going over the top consistently like SDSU did.
BYU should win by 10+.

don't the academy schools typically fade about this time of year? Not that they don't give it their all every down... but their all in game 11 is not nearly as good as it is in the first half of the season. It just seems to be something that is said every year, by the time we are playing them. I was actually glade to see them as the 11th game.... although it will be dangerous for our D to have to face those cut blocks a week before the U.

I admit that I'm more worried about playing this Air Force team than I have been in many many years. That being said, we typically handle the option alot better than most other teams, and I don't think they will be able to force as many turnovers against our big running backs as they have been able to against other teams.

Could be. But if we score more than 24, we win. and I think we will. AFA is not TCU on defense. Not OU, either. Maybe FSU.

Last year Utah barely beat AF, crushed BYU. And we handled AF. So even though TCU crushed them and us, the linkage doesn't quite hold. I think an unemotional, methodical approach works better against the Academy.

Which, apparently, we excel at, as opposed to the opposite.
