The goals for BYU are:

1. To win as many games as possible
2. To be bowl eligible and play the best bowl opponent possible
3. To achieve the highest ranking possible
4. To win a NY6 bowl game

Ideal records:
BYU 11-2. NY6 Bowl win
Tennessee 10-3 SEC Champs
South Florida 11-2 AAC Champs
Toledo 11-2 MAC champs
Idaho St. 9-3 Big Sky champs
UMass 7-5
Washington 10-3 Pac-12 North Champs
USC 12-1 Pac-12 Champs.
SDSU 11-2. MWC champs.
Boise St 10-2
Utah St 10-3. Mountain West Mountain Champs
Liberty 8-4
Utah 3-9

If you want to see these goals accomplished here is your rooting guide:

A. Cheer for BYU. Duh.

BYU over Toledo

B. Cheer for the team playing Utah. Because they’re Utah.

Washington St over Utah

C. Cheer for BYU’s opponents. This helps SOS.

Liberty over New Mexico
South Florida over SMU
UMass over Akron
#21 USC over #17 Washington
Utah St over Colorado St

D. Cheer for teams playing teams ranked ahead of BYU. Cheer for unranked teams vs. ranked teams. If both teams are ranked ahead of BYU cheer for the higher ranked team (Of course rules A-C trump rule D).

North Carolina over #1 Clemson
Ole Miss over #2 Alabama
Nebraska over #5 Ohio St
Texas Tech over #6 Oklahoma
Mississippi St over #7 Auburn
Northwestern over #8 Wisconsin
Towson over #9 Florida
#10 Notre Dame over #18 Virginia
Maryland over #12 Penn St
Middle Tennessee over #14 Iowa
Arizona St over #15 Cal
Rutgers over #20 Michigan
UConn over #22 UCF
Arkansas over #23 Texas A&M
Oklahoma St over #24 Kansas St
Indiana over #25 Michigan St

E. Cheer for our Opponents’ opponents unless they are playing our opponents. This helps our SOS in virtually every SOS calculation. Cheer for the team that our opponents have defeated or will likely defeat. All things being equal cheer for the more connected team (unless it violates rules A-D). For example, Colorado St is one of the most connected teams to our opponents as they play 4 games against them (Toledo, San Diego St, Boise St, Utah St). The number by the team indicates how connected they are.

Air Force (2) over San Jose St
Arizona (3) over UCLA
Buffalo (2) over Miami-Ohio
Charlotte over Florida Atlantic
Coastal Carolina over App St
East Carolina over Old Dominion
Florida St over North Carolina St
Hawaii (3) over Nevada
Kentucky (2) over South Carolina
Louisiana over Georgia Southern
Louisiana Tech over Rice
Marshall over Cincinnati
Navy over Memphis
New Mexico St (3) over Fresno St
Northern Illinois (2) over Vanderbilt
Oregon St (2) over Stanford
Syracuse over Holy Cross
Temple over Georgia Tech
UAB over Western Kentucky
Wake Forest over Boston College
Western Michigan over Central Michigan
Wyoming (3) over UNLV

F. Root for non P5s over P5s (unless it violates rules A-E). Closing the perception gap between P5 and non P5 could only be helpful.

G. Cheer for the FCS team. Because it is fun (unless it violates rules A-F).

Delaware over Pittsburgh
Nicholls over Texas St

H. It doesn’t matter

Arkansas St vs Troy
Duke vs Virginia Tech
Houston vs North Texas
Iowa St vs Baylor
Kansas vs TCU
Louisiana-Monroe vs South Alabama Minnesota vs Purdue
Southern Miss vs UTEP
