Rescheduling covid-19 cancelled games?

I started wondering if/when some of these covid-19 cancelled games from the 2020 schedule will be rescheduled. Granted there is a possibility for current schedules to change depending on unannounced negotiations, but here is a look at the current situation:

@ Army
BYU @ Army was scheduled in August 2020 as a home and home series at West Point in 2020 and in Provo in 2032. A reschedule of the first leg could happen as early as 2023. Army has an opening for 1 more home game and BYU has 1 road opening. There should be some flexibility beyond 2023 if needed due to the full slate of "non-conference" games both teams need to fill.

vs Utah State - RESCHEDULED 10/4/2024
Getting this home game back on the schedule would be a no-brainer. You have to love in-state games that have a high attendance appeal due to close proximity for home and visiting fans. The 4 game extension of the series announced in 2018 includes games in Logan in 2021 and in Provo in 2022. But in 2023, Utah State already has 2 road non-conference games in Iowa and UConn. Without a schedule modification, it doesn't appear this game would happen earlier than 2024, when Utah State has a non-conference road game opening and BYU has 1 home game availability (aside from the expected FCS home game which is also still open).

@ Minnesota
This game would have been the first of a road (2020)/home (2025) series announced in 2016. In reviewing the Golden Gopher's future schedules, the next home game opening they have for a reschedule would be in 2026 where they only have Mississippi State scheduled OOC.

@ Northern Illinois
BYU faced the Huskies in 2018 and suffered a frustrating and humiliating 6-7 loss at home. 2020 was going to be a shot at redemption in the 2020 Huskie Chi-Town Showdown at Seat Geek Stadium just outside Chicago. But it was not to be. As a G5 conference member, road OOC games are an important source of income so NI would not want to give up a road game to host BYU. Consequently, the next available home slot OOC for Northern Illinois is 2026 when they face Illinois State at home and Wake Forest and UMass on the road.

vs Michigan State - RESCHEDULED FOR SEPT 11, 2032
Hosting the Spartans would have been the completion of the road (2016)/home (2020) series scheduled back in 2015. As one might imagine, getting a non-conference road Big 10 game is pretty tough. With only 3 OOC games and a maximum of 1 road game in that mix, Michigan State is not available again until 2027. There are 2 OOC openings in 2026 but they are already scheduled to travel to Notre Dame in that season. BYU has plenty of home game slots from 2027 on into the future.

@ Stanford
In 2013, BYU was able to secure a 4 game series with Stanford beginning in 2020 filling the Thanksgiving weekend game when on the road and in September when in Provo. That 4 game series was extended in January 2020 to include an additional 4 games. The next Thanksgiving week game to match this pattern with Notre Dame playing USC/Stanford in alternating years isn't extended much beyond the current arrangement, so the reschedule of this game is more challenging to predict. In any case, it doesn't appear this game could be rescheduled any earlier than 2027.

@ Arizona State
The BYU-Arizona State series was announced way back in 2014 and featured a game in Tempe in 2020 and the return game in Provo in 2021. The earliest OOC opening to reschedule this game in would be a 3rd home OOC game in 2027. Excluding that rare possibility, the next home opening would be in 2029.

@ Utah - RESCHEDULED FOR SEPT 7, 2030
The rivalry series with the Utes is currently scheduled annually through 2028 with a 2 year break in 2022-2023 as Utah picked up a home/home series with Florida. So this game is likely to be part of a new extension to the series in 2029.

vs Missouri - RESCHEDULED FOR SEPT 8, 2035
The last game up for rescheduling is a home game against Missouri which would have completed a 2015 (Arrowhead Stadium)/2020 (Cougar Stadium) series with the Tigers. Missouri obviously likes to plan ahead as the next opening in their 4-game OOC schedule is not until 2033.

One final note is that the 2020 scheduling madness has resulted in a couple future games that will be added to a future date in exchange for games played this year:
- vs Navy (return trip from 2020 matchup)
- vs Coastal Carolina (return trip from 2020 matchup)
- @ Troy in 2026 (announced in August 2020)

No return games were scheduled with Louisiana Tech, Texas State, UTSA, or Western Kentucky.

This "rescheduled" game is basically included as part of the series extension. They did not disrupt the In Provo/in Logan rotation so the 2020 game in Provo basically is skipped--playing 2019 and 2021 in Logan. So we'll call this rescheduled for 2024 as part of the series.

I think the Army series likely just goes away, the 2020 game could have been easily been rescheduled in 2020 but it seemed like Army wanted no part of BYU.
The other P5 games will likely be rescheduled maybe everyone pushes their OOC games 1 year, but that might be just to easy to do (often people have their own way of doing things).

The school also announced two nonconference games that were wiped out in 2020 have been rescheduled. The Spartans will host Toledo on Sept. 5, 2026, and they will travel to BYU on Sept. 11, 2032. The game against BYU is the farthest-out date MSU has.

Yeah, and BYU therefore has to do back-to-back games at RES. I say they cancelled the game while still playing. I don't care that it was the PAC12 saying they could only play conference games. That is totally illogical and cost BYU a great shot at breaking the streak a year earlier and in RES. I say let the game go.

It is a bit interesting to look at future Utah schedules. The story said the 2019 and 2020 games were part of a single contract. Then after the 2 year break, 2024 thru 2028 are part of another contract. But currently there is no 2029 game scheduled. It will be interesting to see if that is filled as part of another deal and they put the 2020 @ Rice-Eccles Stadium game in 2030 because that is where the @ Utah game would fall in the alternating home/away schedule. The next contract could include 2029 in Provo and 2031 in Provo (and possibly more games).
