Re: The latest on Wyatt Lowell
Pope loaded up on these bigs and he's losing them left and right. People want to play and BYU isn't Kentucky or Duke where sitting on the bench means something.
I hope Pope realizes he goofed here. Last season we had Harward, Haarms, Baxter, Lee, and Lowell. Five guys that could all play down low. Pope in some ways got lucky Baxter and Lowell got hurt otherwise we'd likely be seeing Baxter and Harward in the transfer portal.
If Pope is hoping to go with two 6'10" plus guys on the court, he needs to tweak his offense; otherwise, keep to no more than three centers on the roster.

Re: The latest on Wyatt Lowell
Unlike the loss of Lee (a player with a slow, lumbering style who was not recruited by Pope), the loss of Wyatt Lowell continues to be a headscratcher for me. Pope recruited him to UVU. He played as a freshman at UVU. He received rave reviews from his fellow players at BYU.

Re: The latest on Wyatt Lowell
Yoeli gave credit to Lowell as the one guy that pushed him the hardest in practices during Lowell's RS year, and I was really looking forward to Lowell on the court. He also seemed to be one of the guys Pope was most enthusiastic about.
He had an injury bug that kept him sidelined, but the transfer is perplexing -- maybe he just didn't see a path to a starting job with Baxter picking up an extra year?

I don't see it that preplexing, I think his scholarship was not going to be renewed this year. It's tough business, but if you want to compete you just can not tie up scholarships with injured players that can't play and have used their red-shirt already. I really feel bad for Jesse Wade and Wyatt Lowell, but this is a business any more (don't win you get fired). Both were on scholarship during red-shirt transfer year and then were on scholarship for their next year with a injury. In Jesse's case he was asked to be a walk-on this past season, I expect Lowell was asked to be a walk-on this coming year, because it would be highly unlikely he would be able to produce that much after or recovering from injury.snoscythe wrote: ↑Mon May 10, 2021 1:53 pm Yoeli gave credit to Lowell as the one guy that pushed him the hardest in practices during Lowell's RS year, and I was really looking forward to Lowell on the court. Jesse Wade- 3 years (2 scholarship - 1 walk-on) played in 9 games (42 minutes)
Wyatt Lowell- 2 years (2 scholarship) played in 7 games (45 minutes)
Question is how many games would you project Wyatt to play in this coming year, after coming off a ruptured achilles tendon injury? Personally basketball is a sport that would be a hard sport to come back quickly after this type injury (likely 2 years to recover).
