Re: New Big 12 - Do we want in?
A couple of points of clarification. The Big 12 would continue to exist, would not be a new conference. I'd assume their current rules would remain in place, but with Texas gone they might make a rule against schools having their own network.
The Big East teams would be leaving their conference and joining the Big 12. The Big East would continue to exist as a basketball conference so we wouldn't be playing Marquette, St. John's etc in basketball. However, the Big 12 would still be a very good basketball conference with Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Louisville.
If Texas ends up deciding to stay if OU and OSU bolt to the Pac 14 they may push hard for us to join in order to have an ally to promote schools having their own networks.

Right now I'm almost convinced that BYU needs to get into a conference or get some sort of assurances from the BCS sooner rather than later.
If those schools stay together if 4 more jump ship, that only leaves 5 original members of the Big 12. The rules state that I believe six schools have to be together for a few years in order to retain BCS status.

Big XII or BUST. I think it stays together, and OU and Texas are now battling out concessions. Crazy stuff. Beebe goes, Texas agrees to revenue split and OU stays. That simple. Question is, will the greed and ego of Texas agree to it?

sadly, yes. we havent yet seen the fall-out of this utah loss and another likely on friday (sorry guys). so if we are going to bury ourselves in indy vs a conference, probably better buried in this hybrid, leftovers conference.

I don't think the Utah loss really hurts us that much. The Big XII will look at BYU in terms of market forces, not in terms of football performance. You may have seen the NYTimes article that ranked BYU 43rd (I believe) for total fan support. That is better than 8 of the PAC-12 schools (including Utah) and better than 3 of the Big XII schools. Probably close to the same for a number of other Big XII schools.dmcougar wrote:sadly, yes. we havent yet seen the fall-out of this utah loss and another likely on friday (sorry guys). so if we are going to bury ourselves in indy vs a conference, probably better buried in this hybrid, leftovers conference.
If BYU remains on the outside looking in, it could get ugly...including independent scheduling.
That is why winning immediately is so important. Not for the sake of the football program tradition, but to keep our fan base interested enough to tune in.

It would still be an angst issue for sure, as it would show some definite weaknesses in the team.88Coug wrote:Yes. Without delay.
Let's see. If BYU was in the Big 12 this year, going 1-2 OOC would not be an issue, as BYU could still win the conference and get into a BCS game.

And then does BYU get an invite? Or does the Big 12 look to the Big East schools instead? Or does ND have a change of heart due to all of this turmoil...Lawboy wrote:Big XII or BUST. Too many possibilities, no substance.

Does BYU get an invite, or do they finally act on the invite they have discussed? That is the question. The Big XII needs to get to 12, which means adding 3. BYU has to top that list, and next comes Louisville and then a BE team. Obviously, the ship has sailed for Pitt, so the Big XII has already mucked this up.

Assuming this is true (fingers crossed), why not AFA over another school from the BEast? I can't think of one that would make sense other than Louisville - maybe WVU? But the rest? I'd pass.Lawboy wrote:Does BYU get an invite, or do they finally act on the invite they have discussed? That is the question. The Big XII needs to get to 12, which means adding 3. But it still gives you something to play for.
