Says BYU joining Big12 would've been announced immediately after aTm departure but put on hold because of Oklahoma's Pac12 inquiry. Says Board of Trustees has granted permission for all athletics to join Big12. Also says that it could happen as soon as within a few days.

For some reason after what happened saturday, I think I would feel much more comfortable playing in a conference, outside of our offensive struggles I really feel like the season is over, and the only thing to play for now is to possibly get a higher ranking at the beginning of next year. Before we left the MWC I was one of the biggest independence supporters ("DON'T TREAD ON ME, MWC!!!") I still think it was our best move that we had at the time. I feel like we were being severely held down by Commish Thompson. I feel as if now we really need a conference, but just to be clear I would prefer one that isn't the WAC, MWC, Sunbelt, Etc. Only because I really realized how much I dislike most of those teams, especially the fans of the MWC teams. I know this because for some reason my boss still gets on the MWC forum and leaves the page open at work. It's funny for the past few weeks because I've been able to see all the fans drooling over the possibility of the Big 12 falling apart and for them to pick up the auto bid, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! funny? I know!

I hope we are in. Also I hope that the league expands to 12 teams one or two years after we join. That way we might have a little better standing when the new schools arrive and don't end up being treated like Utah was joining the Pac 12. Also I like the idea of an enormous exit fee larger than the ACC's $30 million fee. I believe someone threw out the number of $70 million was what BYU was demanding as an exit fee for Texas and Oklahoma to make us feel the conference was stable.

I would like to see another team from the west in the conference as the 12th team. My first choice would be to actually include Boise State. They would be a great travel partner for basketball and with only a 5-6 hour drive separating the schools it could develop into a very good rivalry similar to what Texas and OU have. I just don't think that Air Force would really be a good option in the long run. Their football team is mediocre most years and the rest of their sports programs are terrible. They would basically be the doormat of the conference and with their enrollment restrictions that would never change. Boise could actually improve their basketball program by making the jump to a better conference.

The other addition that would be nice is if they can get West Virginia. The ACC and SEC aren't interested. They now are the crown jewel of the Big East conference. Go get them and maybe the league becomes an attractive long term option for Texas and OU. If Texas and OU are happy in the Big 12 the Pac 12 really has no other options unless they really want to go crazy and invite teams that are even further east than Texas. If the Big East football teams end up getting absorbed by the ACC, SEC, Big 12, and Big 10 it is conceivable that no conference grows to larger than 14 and maybe the super conference idea is put to bed.

Am I the only one who still thinks that byu will get screwed over somehow? (or will screw themselves over - and all of us)

Ditto. I had originally hoped the b12 would do something like convince the sec to take TCU in exchange for Arkasas but now that is never going to happen. BSU would be the doormat in most othere sports but being the b12 they would probably improve them dramatically. And as we can see, these conferences are nothing about academics and based solely on fb so I would give them my vote. But on the condition that they put in a green field. Enough with the ugly blue field.

I agree with you - mostly - nearly all. The thing that makes me nervous about remaining Independent (which I love) is our last 2 losses. Texas was respectable - thought we should have won. Yewtah? Not only humiliating - but as an Independent - death. As a member of the Big 12, I don't think the loss affects us as much - especially recruiting wise. We are still recruiting for a "Big Stage." It has helped Yewtah immensely to recruit to the PAC 12 stage.

If we are invited to the Big 12, with reservations - I would join.

No Sunday play.

BYUtv & ESPN television rights.

Must have both to make it palatable. Just makes me wonder if the Big XII schools are going to insist that school networks share revenue or something like that (LHN, I'm looking at you in particular). If so, how would that affect the BYUtv adventure?

Deep Shades of Blue is about as unreliable as sources get. You can find anything and everything on DSB.

Either way, I hope we accept an invite ASAP.

I have an inside source that says that he is the ONLY inside source that has any real knowledge of the conference expansion situation.

My source further says that some of those claiming they have inside sources may be making up their inside sources and may not actually have an inside source.

Finally, my inside source believes anyone who thinks they can believe inside sources, should probably stop, since every other inside source likely isn't all that inside.
