We have heard for over a year about our strategic partnership with Texas, and they are driving this right now. If we blew that and blew Big XII, I am going to be pissed beyond measure, and I know a large host of BYU fans will agree with me. Along with BYU coaches, like Dave Rose and Bronco. IT will be a horrible thing for BYU if they blew it.
I am not a BYU grad (applied and accepted, did not attend). I was an athlete at another school. My connection to BYU is sports only. I joined Cougar Club because I want to see BYU win and compete, in football mostly. If they blew Big XII, it tells me BYU not interested in competing at highest levels, just in other miscellaneous things. My BYU connection will greatly weaken. Just a fact.
If BYU does not get into a big boy conference for all sports, it's a huge failure. It also means a continuing spiral into irrelevancy.
Anyone, especially school or athletic administrators, who don't see how bad being left out is are either delusional or just don't care. That's really the bottom line.
I don't get how anyone could believe that Indy has ANY advantages over being in a BCS conference. Look at our scheduling right now, and probably going forward. The first 4 Indy schedules are pretty much complete. Out of those 4 schedules, only one rivals what we would have on an annual basis in the Big 12, especially at home.

Missing the Big XII train would be a failure, to be sure, but I'm not convinced that BYU would slide into irrelevancy any more than Notre Dame if it maintained its independent status. Irrelevance is brought on by losing. Boise St has been relevant for a decade now by playing cupcakes in the WAC and MWC, punctuated by annual big wins on national TV against a couple national powers. A couple years removed from the top 25 would lead to irrelevance, and it could be argued that BYU would get exactly that if it had to play a Big XII schedule every year.

I think you've oversimplified the issues and are being a little short sighted. Just an opinion.Lawboy wrote:If BYU was not able to close a deal for Big XII, it will be a colossal failure on the part of BYU. BYU has 1 need, and 1 need only--no Sunday play. The rest are wants. Lawboy is dead on. We may be overcompensating for our lack of negotiation skills last time around with the mountain west. I am sure TCU had zero demands when compared to BYU. Lets hope Missouri gets taken by the SEC in short order and then we get our invite. If not I say we send Riley to big 12 headquarters to woo them with his short jersey and flowing mane. That should do it!

Re: TCU to Big 12
I think my biggest frustration is not knowing. I wish I could know the inner workings of discussions, assuming they have occurred.
At the end of the day, though, I trust in the BYU administration. BYU is about more things that football, winning or money. BYU should require no Sunday games as a condition of joining. I would like them to make no games on Conference Saturday a condition as well. BYU is about bigger things.
And honestly the thing that saddens me the most is to see some BYU fans turning on their school and seemingly angry that BYU would stick to their conditions. It reminds me of fans who turned against BYU because they suspended Brandon Davies for Honor Code violations prior to what could have been a magical championship run.
But BYU is about bigger things. If BYU sells out its primary goals for more money, exposure and winning, then I don't see much of a difference between them and Utah. BYU is different and I hope they stay that way.

Sorry, signs are for the faithless. BYU chooses to test your faith.Shum wrote:I wish BYU would step up to the plate and give their fans something to hope for.
