Sundays would be a problem at BYUfrdbtr wrote:I Mike Leach would come and coach the offense, I would choose him over Doman every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Plus, he could mentor Doman on his offense. Doman would end up a better coordinator because of it.

Re: Mike Leach wiling to coach at BYU
I say grab Leach as OC for as long as possible with Doman focusing on being QB coach and studying under Leach. Then we can drop a position coach (I don't know who) until Leach is hired away (which will probably happen in less than 5 years)
I don't mind giving him a 2nd chance at coaching. Especially since I think the whole locking-kids-in-a-shed thing is a bunch of nonsense that the kid and his dad made up

Darrell Bevell already has a much better job, though I think he was available at the time BYU hired Doman.talcougar wrote:Since we're speculating, what about Darrell Bevell?
If we're just going to semi-randomly throw out names, why not Brian Billick...

Re: Mike Leach wiling to coach at BYU
I was about to question the complete lack of BYU link but after some quick research I learned something new today--no idea Billick has a link to BYU. Not sure if he's LDS but I know for certainty Bevell is.Mingjai wrote:Darrell Bevell already has a much better job, though I think he was available at the time BYU hired Doman.talcougar wrote:Since we're speculating, what about Darrell Bevell?

Billick was the first in a long line of first-team all-conference BYU tight ends--I don't know why he's so forgotten.talcougar wrote:I was about to question the complete lack of BYU link but after some quick research I learned something new today--no idea Billick has a link to BYU. Pretty sure Billick's not LDS, but he appeared on the Lighting the Y donation campaign videos a few years ago, so he still has some ties to BYU. I assume Billick didn't come back for tight end week during the week of the Utah game, otherwise he probably would have generated more pub.

Lol. Exactly. He is not a good fit. However we sure could use him as an offensive coordinator. I would demote doman to qb coach and have leach as oc anyday.snoscythe wrote:"if the circumstances were right" probably would involve an Honor Code waiver for alcohol imbibery.
But who knows andy reid may be available soon

I heard Billick speak. He confirmed he's not LDS. He shared a funny story about how BYU changed his instincts.Mingjai wrote:Billick was the first in a long line of first-team all-conference BYU tight ends--I don't know why he's so forgotten.talcougar wrote:I was about to question the complete lack of BYU link but after some quick research I learned something new today--no idea Billick has a link to BYU. His first job out of BYU was a PR job with the 49ers. He was assigned to provide breakfast for the coaches and staff for the NFL draft. He said he went all out pancakes, sausage, bacon, danish, OJ, hot chocolate, Milk, Toast, etc. Bill Walsh looked at the spread and said,
"Where's the F*%#*^ COFFEE!?!?! It's FIVE O'CLOCK in the morning!!! That's what we want!!"
Because of his BYU experience, it never occured to Billick to get coffee. It hadn't been a part of his life over the last 4 years. Everybody in the room was cracking up when he shared that.

Re: Mike Leach wiling to coach at BYU
I have never seen Leach say he was ex-Mormon. He still says he is Mormon. He came to Provo during the summers during the 90s to study the BYU offense.
As such, he is at most an inactive Mormon (and likely still closer to the church than fellow inactive Gary Patterson....)
