This - true to my knowledge and right now TCU is in driver's seat to win MWC.Dcr36 wrote:If I'm not mistaken, the BCS rules also require the higher ranked team to win its conference. Can someone clarify?

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

We could have done it if Jake had more confidence, or if we hadn't given up. Too bad he played bad for the first part of the season.jonnylingo wrote:This was byu's year to get an at large bid. had they won out they would be in top ten without notre dame to worry about. would have had a very good shot.
However, I am very confident that if we had won out, we would be in the top 5 by now, at least. Maybe we could be second or third.

Remind me again, did he win that game? If he wasn't good enough to be on the field, then he certainly did nothing to help us win.BYUROCKS wrote:cougarnerd wrote:We could have done it if Jake had more confidence, or if we hadn't given up. Good lord, people, this was a Boise St thread and you hacks turned it into another Heaps vs Riley abortion.
Thanks for nothing, CCers.

Re: BSU
Boise State's only chance for a BCS bid is as an at-large, for which it is qualified (given that the Broncos defeat SDSU and Wyoming on the road, not necessarily a given as both teams could exploit BSU's injuries).
TCU win's the MWC due to its remaining cakewalk schedule at home. Not going to lose. TCU will be BCS qualified only as the highest non-AQ champ and unlikely to be at-large eligible.
If Houston loses before the CUSA title game, it becomes a TCU vs. CUSA champ battle for the BCS spot. If 3 loss Tulsa wins CUSA, TCU will be going to the Sugar Bowl. If Houston loses to S MU, but defeats Tulsa and then Southern Miss, Houston will likely be behind TCU.
If Southern Miss wins out, it will have a serious shot at the BCS berth over TCU with a 12-1 record. It would be very, very close.
So, Houston is in the driver's seat, and TCU and USM may or may not have a chance at the non-AQ slot..... Unfortunately for Houston, its schedule to date is worse than Hawaii's in 2007.......

Re: BSU
I thought a non-AQ conference champ was only automatically in the BCS if it finished in the top 16 of the BCS rankings. Will TCU climb that high with cake wins to finish out the season and a 10-2 record?

edit to add quote from bcsfootball.org:
3. The champion of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, or the Western Athletic Conference will earn an automatic berth in a BCS bowl game if either:
A. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or,
B. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls.
No more than one such team from Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, and the Western Athletic Conference shall earn an automatic berth in any year. (Note: a second team may be eligible for at-large eligibility as noted below.) If two or more teams from those conferences satisfy the provisions for an automatic berth, then the team with the highest finish in the final BCS Standings will receive the automatic berth, and the remaining team or teams will be considered for at-large selection if it meets the criteria.

Re: BSU
Looking at this weeks BCS rankings, I don't see a single Big East team, so if TCU wins the MWC they only need to be 16 or higher to get into a BCS bowl, with a 10-2 record. Weird. BYU finished 10-2 in the MWC something like 5 years straight and either couldn't win the conference or finish high enough in the polls.

Re: BSU
I think that this can be read to say that BSU doesn't need to be the champion of the MWC to receive a BCS bis, only that should the Campion of the MWC receive a BCS bid, it must meet these requirements. Also, if BSU isgoing to the Big East, and it's announced as so, I see them gettign a BCS bid this year and TCU not...CAFB_04-12 wrote:I thought a non-AQ conference champ was only automatically in the BCS if it finished in the top 16 of the BCS rankings. Re: BSU
But if TCU wins the conference and finishes 16 or higher (in front of an AQ conference champ...i.e., Big East), it doesn't matter what anyone thinks...they are then an AQ for a BCS bowl. BSU could still qualify for an at-large BCS spot, but only one non-AQ can get an auto-berth.
from bcs football.org
from bcs football.org
At-large eligibility
If there are fewer than 10 automatic qualifiers, then the bowls will select at-large participants to fill the remaining berths. An at-large team is any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible and meets the following requirements:
A. Has won at least nine regular-season games, and
B. Is among the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings.
No more than two teams from a conference may be selected, regardless of whether they are automatic qualifiers or at-large selections, unless two non-champions from the same conference are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the final BCS Standings.
If fewer than 10 teams are eligible for selection, then the Bowls can select as an at-large team any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible, has won at least nine regular-season games and is among the top 18 teams in the final BCS Standings subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following: (1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and (2) from the teams ranked 15-18, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.
If expansion of the pool to 18 teams does not result in 10 teams eligible for selection, then the pool shall be expanded by blocks of 4 teams until 10 eligible teams are available subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following: (1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and (2) from the teams ranked 15 or lower, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.
Relative to the two preceding paragraphs, all teams ranked in the top 14, other than those from conferences which have already had two teams selected, must be included in the bowl selections.
Note: in order to participate in a BCS Bowl game, a team (i) must be eligible for post-season play under the rules of the NCAA and, if it not an independent, under the rules of its conference and (ii) must not have imposed sanctions upon itself prohibiting participation in a post-season game for infractions of the rules of the NCAA or the rules of its conference.
