Their receiver did make some great catches, which made our DBs look silly. Thankfully, WSU's O-line really likes to hold/tackle defenders and thankfully it was so obvious the refs were basically forced to call it.

Defense is awesome. Completely stuffed the run and dared WSU to beat them in the air. We're faster this year and I loved seeing that speed.

KVN delivered. Ziggy is a beast and Johnson, Hadley and Sampson dominated.

Next week is a gimme. Then we'll see what the offense and defense are made of.
Let's just hope they can put ole Jordy Wynn on the sideline. I want us to go after that fool!

I am not going to crown this defense yet. It seems that the last 3-4 years I have been amazed at the intensity, hard hitting, and speed they show in the first 2-3 games. Then, they seem to all of a sudden lose it. They stop flying to the ball, they stop wrapping receivers up right after they catch it, and they seem to stop hitting so hard.

Am I the only one who has seen this in recent years? It seems the whole board is drooling over the defense, but I want to see this happen past game 4 before I given them the
"Best. BYU. Defense. Ever."
treatment.

Am I off base?

I think BYU has its best corner combo since 1996. So long as JJ an P Hadley stay healthy, BYU will be legit in the secondary. BEcause our nickel package was fast and awesome in cover. Even if WSU hit on its two big called back plays, it was still a crazy good night. No defense stops everything. No possible. And those two pays were perfectly thrown balls.

The last six games of the year last year the defense allowed an average of 299 yards per game and did not allow more than 300 yards in any game after Oregon State (including TCU). I'm not sure I would call that a significant drop off in intensity or success. I also would say that I think the defense did not show any decrease in intensity in their later games over the first games of the season.

If you dline is playing so well that it gets held, that is all part of stopping their O. He did have those 2 great catches but the play failed since their O had to hold our guys in order to give the qb time to throw the ball to him.

The defense is as good as or better than 2011. Impressive. They still get beat by speed in the open field and let a few guys break tackles. They are not incredible. They are very, very, good.

ST was solid other than one huge return - speedy guy in open field - making guys miss.
WSU ST was horrible, simply horrible. Not sure if we made them look horrible or they were just that bad. The punter in particular.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Yeah, I was watching their punter practice at half time. It seemed like every 2-3 punts went off the side of his foot. On the other hand I was happy with the speed of our team on special teams, even that long return was stopped by Hague out running the guy to make a play.

Our D looked fast. It didn't look like any defense at BYU I have seen in some time.
