The problem with making cheap seats available is that they all get snatched up by scalpers and resold at what the market will pay anyway, so it's a false solution.

I know a number of Legacy ticket holders who bought their full allotment this season, not because they would actually use them, but with an eye towards resale and recouping the cost of the tickets they actually use. You buy 6 tickets you actually use between the 30s, and then buy your other 6 in the endzones for $180 a pop, resell the endzone tickets and you've made enough profit to cover more than half of your sideline seats.

The sad thing is that there is really no solution other than making tickets non-transferrable, which is a complete non-starter.
I don't see why (from a fans stand point) scalpers buying up tickets is such a bad thing.

I love buying from scalpers because A. there available on game day B. the price can be negotiated. The ticket price is listed right on the ticket, If a scalper is charging more than that, than I say no thank you. Scalpers order season tickets and get a discount on face value, that makes the negotiating easy to do. Also I like to wait until the game is about to start and then low ball the guys..
Byu just doesn't want to miss out on the money, this has nothing to do with fans in my book.

St. George

That works great for mediocre opponents or when BYU is doing poorly. For big-time games, the scalpers buy up any extra ticket a fan holds up to sell at or below face value to control supply. Then they sell above face value. And right before the game starts there are either no tickets or only mismatched singles.

But yes - I showed up at Angel's stadium after the game started due to traffic a few weeks ago and got 3 adjacent seats for $10 each and could probably have haggled lower. Of course, the stadium was half empty.

It is simply econ 101 - supply and demand - better if the money goes to AD Coffers than to street scalpers.

When I have extra tickets, I sell them at or below face value regardless of opponent and I try to take great care to make sure I am selling it to the fan who will be using it - not to a scalper who will mark it up and resell it.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

I agree with your premise. I believe that Stubhub, ksl, ebay etc are NOT as fan friendly or school friendly as street scalpers. If an online broker over charges an nobody buys then the tickets go unsold(Byu still profits though) The fans just don't have the leverage to barder.
Byu wants butts in seats on top of selling every seat. With the online place Byu would only get the sell out of seat, without the butts.

Overall I like the scalper buy ups better than Byu marking ticket prices up. I have more options money wise and purchasing wise with the scalpers.

IMO think its a power/money grab by the school...

I think 2 Texas tickets cost us about $220. Good for BYU.

Of course, I'll be taking my kids to the MTSU and ISU games instead.

It seems the only way to come out ahead is to get season tickets.

Never thought of Obama. Free tickets for everyone - unless you make more than he makes. That would sell out the stadium. Let's expand to 110, 000 seats. Bigger than The Big House.

Elder Mars

Though we are not quite to Idaho State week on the free ticket thread - and even though we once butted heads on here for a solid two years or so - if you have a really cute neighbor, niece, SIL, cousin, sister, or friend age 20-26, fun, temple worthy - I could get you a ticket for her and two extra tickets so you could keep a close eye on things. Or 3-4 seats if she prefers a non-football date.

Just show up as Elder Mars or 2013 Mars. I like those guys.

A non-football date now for 4 ISU tickets to be used later.

Offer is open to others, too.

Perhaps, given all of the recruiting updates you have provided CC and CB over the years, somebody will PM me and offer up their first born child on your behalf.

But, seriously, I hate to see tickets go unused and I love little kids that love BYU.
