GFGH:"Groundhog Day, Percentages,"Trust me",Swear word.
Go Fast Go Hard
Will this be a season of "how many times are we going to wake up and see the same thing until BYU gets it right? Just like the movie. Over and over like a bad dream.
Percentages: I'm reading tweets of 11 punts by UVA. No drives in the second half of more than 20-ish yards. Bronco may have underestimated the toll this O would take. It's not just a fifth quarter and the players need to be conditioned for, It's about giving the ball vs a decent defense or even worse, a great Defense, more times to a poor or even an average offense, like UVAs, more chances and higher probability to figure out our D and get it right or get lucky. And if the opponent has a great D and a great O, BYU risks having embarrasing blow outs. In short, it helps average teams have more chances and good teams more chance to blow out BYU. As well, more chances for our Offense to make mistakes, not just bc its tired, but bc it has flaws that can bet exposed.
"Trust me." Remember that? There might be a reason why he had to ask his players for that. They doubt it and so are many fans at this moment. Wolfman might be right, BYU may not have the horses to pull this off. Hopefully Cody comes back next week bc Texas might eat BYUs lunch. Sorry to be a doubting Thomas, but trust isn't going to last past next week if BYU can't figure this out--which doesn't mean they have to win it, but have to look respectable. Texas could blow the doors off this O. It is HIGH RISK and only High reward if the other team is average.
GFGH. Will be an Internet-like fake swear word, mocked to scorn, much like Doman's "Nitro" offense. TV announcers are going to have a hay day with this. BYU fans may come to use this as an epithetical swear word and an effigy-like dispersion of Anae. If they aren't already.
I hope Anae and the players figure this out and that its just first game, on the road jitters or it really could be a long season.

And all your credibility goes out the window........Cougs_Rule wrote:Wolfman might be right.
Say what you will about BYU or Anae. But Wolfman is a case study in pathological personality disorders and revels in the misfortune of others. He gloats when others fail and whimpers in a dark, hidden corner when the targets of his criticism succeed beyond the point that even his delusions cannot criticize. He is pathetic. And his being 'right' about anything is simply a function of chance, much like the broken clock that is right twice a day.

Fair enough. So, just consider the idea on its merit. Does Byu have enough speed and talent to sustain GFGH? Are speed and talent key components to this hurry up offense. Certainly catching and throwing the ball are. And that was weak yesterday.

BYU's offense performed better towards end of game despite the interception. Fatigue was not the factor. Look at Wiliams ypc - it ended up over 4 when in the 3rd quarter it was still hovering in mid-3s. BYU can sustain GFGH - it needs to eliminate careless mistakes (backfield in motion, incorrect number of players in backfield, offsides, fumbles, dropped balls, poorly thrown passes, and poor pass protection/run blocking). The team can improve and when it does, we will have good balance between strong D and good O.

New offenses usually have growing pains. Most of us here are looking at 2014 because the new O will have more experience as will Hill.byucougar1 wrote:BYU's offense performed better towards end of game despite the interception. I agree that both sides of the ball will hold their own with more experience.

Let's hope. Because I really wonder if the D will be anywhere close to this or last years.
The D loses 3 of 4 starting LBs, (2 likely to play in NFl) starting safety and nose tackle. Big rebuild next year. The O will lose only one, but a big one as we saw last night. "Where did you go Cody DiMaggio?"

And yet after all the moaning, complaining, and hand wringing about how bad the offense was, BYU was one boneheaded call from sealing the deal and coming home with a win. And frankly, I can't necessarily blame Robert Anae for the call since he was heavily criticized for being too conservative the last time he was here. He was probably thinking this was a perfect time to show that he would not put on the brakes, throw for a 1st down and end the game kneeling on the ball. Unfortunately, it completely back fired. I am sure he won't make the same mistake again.

Fair point. But the goal should have been ball security (run it on third from your own 30) and placing the game in your strongest unit--the defense--on their own 30 not BYUs!!!!

Kind of like in the 2010 utah game when the goal was ball security, and then put the game in the hands of the kicker. I am as disappointed in the loss as anyone but sometimes calls just don't go your way. I think BYU would have won if they had run the ball on the next play and then punted if they didn't get the first down but that isn't what happened. Time to move on and see if the team improves next week.Cougs_Rule wrote:Fair point. I can't criticize the call as I was calling for a pass. Freak INT, it happens. Glad to see more aggression even though it backfired. Now a trick play would be nice to see.
