John Beck to Curtis Brown? Worked every time.
Loved that play, I'll love it again too, once BYU's RB learn how to catch a pass and Taysom learns how to float a ball over a line backer that is in between him and the RB.

Look at the RBER for RBs, is that really who we want to focus our passing game on?
I have no math to back this up, but seems to me our backs as of late don't have the best hands. Been a lot of drops by them, which is why I suspect Hill opted not to throw it to Hine and instead try to throw one to a WR he knew could catch it if it got there.

Sure there's room for improvement on Hill's end, but our backs do need to do a better job catching the ball. I suspect that's why we don't see such plays. Brown and Unga had great hands. Both those backs made a decent living cutting out to the side and catching the ball.

I actually hate it when BYU tries a screen pass. It never works.

I would gladly take a slant.

I'd love to see more slants and quick hitters as well. I don't know how you defend a little 3 yard quick turnaround like it seems Payton Manning uses all the time in short yardage situations. I'd also like to see the shovel pass that Doman brought in. That seemed to work really well with JW.

Finally figured out how to get the Rich Rod quote off my signature that randomly showed up! Sorry if you thought I stole it from you……..whoever it was that used to have it

Iirc Hoff dropped a slant in a critical situation. Perhaps with experience Hill can finesse those short passes a bit and maybe they will be caught more often. But we have hsd our share of short passes popped up to a defender.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

I'm missing Manase Tonga. Actually, the backfield duo of him and Fui was one of the most exciting and lethal we've ever had.
But Beck hitting Manase out of the backfield was money almost every single time.
Anae 1.0 made his name by converting 3rd and shorts--and the short pass was a big reason why. I don't think Anae gets amnesia that quickly, so I'm blaming it on personnel.
Thus, I'm missing me some Manase. Really thought Iona Pritchard would have amounted to more. The fact that he hasn't has hurt.

Couple more thoughts:
1. Friel getting his first catch of the season is because he hasn't been targeted. Spiff probably has the numbers, but I honestly don't remember another time when he's had a pass thrown to him. Very disappointing seeing as how he was clearly the leading TE last season. But it was obvious from the start that TE was an after thought for Anae 2.0--TEs weren't in the initial coaching assignments and it wasn't until well after the rest of the offensive staff had been formed that Anae announced that a Graduate Assistant would be taking on 2nd most storied position at BYU.
2. Totally agree with reintegrating the shovel pass that Doman introduced. That was one of the positive innovations that could have been carried over.

Okay, my ADHD is kicking into high gear now, BUT.....

There is an Asian-American rock band from Portland, Oregon, called "The Slants" and they are trying to copyright their name and the United States Patent and Trademark Office refuses their partition because "slants" is a disparaging term for people of Asian descent.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bug: :bug:

I work with a guy who is now an American citizen, he escaped from Viet Nam back in the late 70s. Love the guy to death. One day I told him I could help him fulfill his wildest dream, his ultimate fantasy, and it would only take like thirty seconds.

He gives me this really funny look and says "Okay, what is my wildest fantasy?" "You want to be a white man like me." Long stare, then a roll of the eyes. "Okay Lynn, how do I become a white man like you in thirty seconds?" "Chau, you spin yourself is a really tight circle for thirty seconds and then you'll become disorientaled."

Chau just stares at me again, lets out a long sigh, shakes his head, and proceeds to roll his eyes yet again.

His wife, who is also from Viet Nam, called me up the next day and told me he talked to her about the incident and was laughing the whole time. Their kids even laughed about it, but I wasn't to ever let him know that I knew he enjoyed the joke.

Sorry for the terrible rabbit trail I let anybody on.

It is both proper and necessary to say "Do CraigO and me a favor."

This is all the result of the pendulum swinging too far away from the incorrect "CraigO and me went to the store."
Amen.

Seriously. I agree too. That SO bugs you, he and I. I try not to think about the tendency for over-correcting to the point of replacing the objective pronoun with its subjective counterpart because you know if we focus on it, its just going to drive we crazy.

I'd so much rather hear "Me and him went to the game and we LOVED it!" than "We LOVED going to the game, which was only made possible because my neighbor's friend gave tickets to he and I."

Pet peeve.

It'll work when there isn't a linebacker or DB between the QB and RB or when it hasn't been raining for 5 hours or when your defense has 3 minutes left to shut down an offense that hadn't done a thing all game. (Virginia still hurts....)

Cool down dude. Geez. Folks on the forum who are constantly picking fights with other posters need to get a life. Go outside and blow off some steam or something. You get wound up way too easily, and it's starting to irritate.
