Quit that stupid BCS talk

Post by cougarsunited »

One problem we all tend to have, is that before big games we all draw up imaginative Kolobs of a millennial Cougar reign as unconquerable football team. Frequently, we lose those games... So let's cut out that BCS crap, tell Bronco that it's OK to put 100 points on Idaho State and focus on winning today.
The loss to UV in reality will be the sure fire knock-out criteria even if we were in the top 14 and technically eligible. IF... if... the UV is not a sure knock-off, it will certainly be Idaho State, essentially we have one less game this year, our schedule is no nowhere close the toughest we have ever had (I hate this typical American exaggeration, everything for y'all over there has to be in the superlative, stupid talk at the beginning of the year...). We would need a perfect storm, sorry, as optimistic as I think I am, I am just too realistic also. It'll be tough enough to win today and to win out and should all that happen, let's set it all up for a potential BSC run next year and a NC year the year after (there is my optimism!)

That statement has more holes in it then a doughnut shop..first UV loss would not knock us out friend..If we get to 14 look at the other options the fiesta bowl would have 1...Second BYU would finish the season on fire that scores mega points, the Idaho st comment just awful...Is FSU not going to the title game because the play Idaho 90% of the top 25 plays a 1-AA teams it does not matter. Most football talking heads say 1 loss at this point BYU would be sitting pretty..Part of the fun is playing the what if game yes a lot of people still think BYU has an outside shot at the BCS not just BYU fans..

I know it's fun to speculate, but it's really premature. I don't think it should even be a matter ford discussion unless we win the next two games. If that happens, then we can resurrect the topic.

If we win out, the talking heads will be all over it even if we don't make it. We have the potential to do it. If we win today, we will have a very good chance of winning out. It comes down to today. Can't wait and I will continue to dream. Hope our last remaining recruits are watching today.

This. However, this s why I asked the question in another thread, "would this be Broncos biggest win? In context, it is huge. Sets up winning out, BCS legit talk next year (play-off notwithstanding) some this year, Taysom on radar big time for next years Heisman, and some this year. A win at Camp Randall is huge!
But, yes, the prize here is only token mention of BCS talk. That's all we'd sniff. But it smells good!

I don't think anyone ever said we should not focus on winning today. In the thread where I started the conversation I had a link to an article from a non-BYU source: David Miller from the National Football Post. That is what got me excited. Someone besides a blue-goggled fan is talking about us. And besides, there's nothing wrong with fans dreaming big and having fun. I mean, this is a sport. Take a chill pill and don't take our BCS dreams so seriously bro.

So BCS talk is an expession of our inner Ugly American? Isn't any American football talk a uniquely American expression?

I don't see how or why this is a problem. Are you saying that because fans talk about what-if's with the BCS that it causes our team to lose big games? And, why the knock on our schedule? We do have a great schedule, top-25 in the country.

This is the toughest BYU schedule ever. Period. It does not have the toughest game ever. Miami and a very few others hold that honor. But week in and week out competitive games with the toughest ones on the road and several back east. Toughest ever.

If anyone thinks it is not. Then post here which one is. Hint, only Detmer's Senior season comes close. Not much cake this year.

Other than that - no - BYU is not at all likely to get a BCS Bowl. It could happen if we win out and a number of upsets occur. Not likely.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.
