You answered your own question.

"If Anae wanted a tight end by now, he would have some by now."
It's kind of a scary thought, isn't it? We have an OC that wants nothing to do with TEs... I mean, who do you put in to pick up the additional blitzer or release and get a first down, Nate Carter? What does he weigh, a buck 50 in full pads and helmet? I don't think he is going to cut it terms of pass protection.

This is absolutely spot on. And guess what. It doesn't take a Dennis pitta to get to the middle. UM had several chunky butts catching passes.
I'm getting more and more convinced that if Anae doesn't have a running man QB against good talent, he can't get the job done consistently. He is too easy to scout and abuse.
I don't think I have seen anyone compare last weeks 3rd and five safe run up the gut to Jake heaps vs Utah in whatever. Year where he played it safe after he had made several really good throws and 3rd down conversions. Then the blocked field goal and Anae lost his job. AD now he's on shaky ground again.
Where Corwton was too wild-eyed and pass happy, Avae is too conservative and fear based.

Anae never should have been brought back.

The 2010 Utah game should have never been brought back. Uggh. Murphy's law in that game.

If you are getting swallowed up in man coverage, those are the routes you go to if you want to free someone up. Are they not in the playbook? Did I miss them? Is Anae too stubborn to admit his receivers can't beat man and his QB doesn't have the touch to make throws into coverage on a given Saturday?
this question has been asked for years now. nobody knows why we never see it.

Yep, it's scary and sad to a certain extent.

I was against Anae coming back, and we're seeing the reasons why. The route trees Anae runs are pretty bad. His line blocking schemes are actually pretty good, which is why he's better than Doman, but that's about it.
