About recruiting
Yes, BYU has "outrecruited" Utah and TCU. BYU has recruited a total of 32 athletes 3 star or better from Scout.com from 2006-2008. By comparison TCU had recruited 11 in that span.
However, only 10 out of those 32 players for BYU are on their current roster:
1. Mckay Jacobson DNP vs. TCU
2. Houston Reynolds DNP vs. TCU
3. J.J. Diluigi
4. Gaskins DNP vs. TCU
5. Jordan Pendleton
6. Freeman DNP vs. TCU
7. Tevita Hola DNP vs. TCU
8. Chambers
9. Taufi DNP vs. TCU
10. Clawson
Meanwhile, 9 out of the 11 three star or better athletes for are on the current TCU roster and 8 of them played against BYU including some guy named Kerley.
Yes, recruiting rankings aren't everything. Jorgensen and Unga are 2 star athletes according to scout.com, but so are Jerry Hughes and Andy Dalton.
The point is if you believe TCU had more experienced talent on the field you are absolutely correct. However, as you can see there is reason to be excited as several of these top notch players will be coming back starting next year from missions and redshirts. BYU recruited 6 3star or better athletes in '06, 15 in '07, 11 in '08, and 13 in '09. Bronco's recruiting effort really hadn't taken off until '07 which means next year we should start seeing the fruit of the talent that has been brought to BYU since Bronco arrived due to missions and redshirts.
Here are the "missing" 22 from '06-'08 due to missions, academics, JC eligibility, theft at Deseret Towers, redshirting, transfer, or othe :
1. Lark
2. Matangi Tonga
3. Pringle
4. Saulsberry
5. Munns
6. Marcus Matthews
7. Cade Cooper
8. Mauga
9. Mahina
10. Lotulelei
11.Vaitai
12. Kessman
13. Angilau
14. Pittman
15. Mack
16. Holt
17. Afutiti
18. Comer
19. Shiloah Te'o
20 Jake Murphy
21. Daniel Sorensen
22. Jerry Bruner

Re: About recruiting
Wow, great post. I hadn't even thought about the fact that our superior recruiting classes weren't even playing for us.

Re: About recruiting
Oh I have thought a lot of those recruits not being available. Using 07 as the beginning of stud recruiting classes. We will see the maximizing of our classes in 2013 or 2014 when they are seniors or redshirt seniors (after serving missions) supported with all of the other stud classes after 2007. Be patient better times are a coming!!!
Just keep things going and don't give up. The system is working. The sign that we are there is when we consistently get top 25 classes.

Sorry, not the strongest follower of recruiting rankings. What is the highest ranking recruiting class that BYU has had? is it anywhere close to top 25?

Re: About recruiting
I think the top on scout was #50. I am looking at the number of 3star or higher recruits. If you get 10 a year and they all pan out, you should have a pretty talented team. don't we have like 17 committed for this season? Now do that each year!!!
