My vote is Taysom 3 quarters against the last four teams (and probably only 1 half against SUU) and keep the offense open for the remainder of the games for future QB developments. These are our "early season" games for next year with respect to team development

I concur. Keep Taysom in 3 quarters or until we are up by 21 or more. Then keep the offense open for Tanner...not just handing off the ball. Things will change personnel wise next year anyway, so Tanner just needs some experience running the offense in live games, but it will be different next year.ABYUFAN wrote:My vote is Taysom 3 quarters against the last four teams (and probably only 1 half against SUU) and keep the offense open for the remainder of the games for future QB developments. Re: Time to start thinking about the future?
I know the seniors on the football team would hate me for this, but these next few games really do need to be looked at as pre-season games for next year since BYU doesn't have the luxury of easing into their seasons. I'd prefer Tanner's first start against an FBS opponent since Dec 2015 to be against someone besides LSU, so I hope he starts one of the the FBS games. (Probably UMass since it's a home, non-rivalry game.) Otherwise, BYU's potentially looking at a redo of 2016 in terms of QB growing pains with a first half schedule of LSU (in Houston), Bucky, Utah, @USU, Boise State, and @Miss State.ABYUFAN wrote:My vote is Taysom 3 quarters against the last four teams (and probably only 1 half against SUU) and keep the offense open for the remainder of the games for future QB developments. I'd be very surprised if the coaches are not thinking this very thing. Then again, I was surprised when coaches went for it at 4th and 19.Mingjai wrote:I know the seniors on the football team would hate me for this, but these next few games really do need to be looked at as pre-season games for next year since BYU doesn't have the luxury of easing into their seasons. If I'm a recruit, I'm scratching BYU off my list. No commitment. Benching Jamaal, as well, and playing RB Canada? Somehow this idea has the stench of a dump Taysom and play Tanner dispute. What would Lavell do? Ask Bosco or Young. Lavell was a man of commitment, and I believe this coaching staff is as well.

So, if you were a recruit and you saw BYU give a former starter a start and some playing time in big wins, you'd scratch BYU off your list?SenorCougar wrote:If I'm a recruit, I'm scratching BYU off my list. Benching Jamaal? Did I miss something? Has BYU done anything with/to Jamaal that would make a recruit who understood the BYU mission change his mind?
