Why Bronco >>>>>>Urban

Post by BroncoBot »

Loved this article about UF linebacker Brandon Spikes. Apparently he was caught trying to eye-gouge. Urban, being the old feign we know him to be gave him a suspension for.... get ready for this.... the first half of the Vanderbilt game. Wow.

Later in the article Dan Wetzel points out that this is what college football has become. Winning. If that means you let your players act like buffoons, so be it. This is another reason I love Bronco's deliberate approach that involves teaching the young men under his direction the real way to live life. BYU is much more about developing as an individual than it is about winning and making loads of money. I'm grateful that these two paragraphs from the article don't involve BYU or the types of fans BYU has (for the most part).

"This is a sport, unfortunately, where you don’t need to run a program the right way to earn massive fame, fortune and support though. A large proportion of Gator fans wouldn’t care if Ealey’s eye had been damaged. It’s like that with every college team.

For too many fans it’s just about winning games. They’ll pretend Meyer is doing it the right way whether he is or not. They’ll justify Spikes’ act and the light penalty somehow.

Meyer and Foley know that. They know football runs the school and, as such, no one who runs the school will mess with football. So they’ll do as they wish and pretend it’s no big deal.

The fans will cheer anyway. The checks will clear regardless. Spikes may even have another 10-tackle, pick-six afternoon like he did against Georgia.
"

or this

"This is about winning games by any means necessary, it’s about justifying and enabling out-of-control play, it’s about brushing off concerns about the safety of opposing players.

Again, thank you Bronco for going about this the right way. I'm sure the players 10 years down the road are going to think back on their days at BYU more in terms of growth, than simply wins and losses.

EDIT+ I guess I'll also link the article :)

a half a game is a joke.

Why not make him play the entire game...without pads.

More fitting a punishment I think.

More like without a facemask. Check out this picture of him...

He wears a clear plastic shield to protect his eyes.... now we know why. He's afarid someone will try to do the eye gouge back to him. Apparantly he lives by the age old motto: "Do unto others - then split!"

Here's the video of the incident. 100% deliberate! Can't the NCAA or even the SEC punish him further???
