OR, he really is a guy with an incredible football mind, but when he's scrambling he gets too invested in what he's doing (or believes he has to do it by himself because he doesn't trust the other guys) and makes stupid mistakes.

Yes, that's my personal conclusion as it's the only way I can explain his decision-making over 14 games where he routinely puts the team in worse position when he could easily just throw the ball away and maintain the line of scrimmage.

I've noticed the same about decision making, just never thought about padding stats being the reason. I suppose it's possible.
