Boise QB, Cade Fennegan, transfers to BYU

What is kind of funny is BYU currently has 6 QBs projected for the fall roster--adding a scholarship and walk-on QB to replace the 2 walk-on QBs that left the program after spring camp.

Jaren Hall, Sophomore--though 2021 will be his 5th year out of high school and 4th with the program (HS class of 2016, 2016-2018 mission, 2018 Redshirt, 2019 Freshman, 2020 Medical Redshirt, 2021 Sophomore). Even if he ends up with the starting job, I'm not sure I see him staying with the team beyond 2022--year 5 in the program.

Baylor Romney, Sophomore--Romney is actually a member of the HS class of 2015 believe it or not.
(Was committed to Nevada pre-mission and then served a mission. 2018 Redshirt, 2019 Freshman, 2020 Sophomore/Covid, 2021 Sophomore). He has spent 3 years in the program. Again, his work on a degree/years of scholarship allocation should be wrapping up in the next year or two despite still being eligible.

Jacob Conover, Freshman--Conover enters his 2nd year with the team after getting his free Covid year in 2020. He was part of the HS class of 2019.

Sol-Jay Maiava-Peters, Freshman--Class of 2020. Entering his 2nd year with the program after a free freshman covid season.

Cade Fennegan, Freshman--Class of 2018 who got thrown into immediate action after returning from his mission due to BSU QB injury/unavailability vs BYU last year. His freshman year was free due to covid so he is a freshman again this year.

Nick Billoups, Freshman (walk-on)--Class of 2020. Free freshman year at Utah as a walk-on. Left because they wanted him to move to defense but he wanted a shot to play QB and Aaron Rodrick agreed to give him that shot.

It is quite possible that one of Hall and Romney is not with the team after 2021 and perhaps both gone after 2022. It was urgent to get some talent back in the pipeline behind them.

Saw an article today that said Fennegan entered the transfer portal after a certain date so will have to redshirt this year.
