Re: BYU - New Mexico Game thread
Porterie makes a freshman mistake intentionally grounding, taking his team out of FG range with only 20 seconds left. Too bad Porterie isn't a freshman.

And the Cougars end the half on a blocked FG. Way to go Special Teams!

Re: BYU - New Mexico Game thread
So why weren't our guys going after the ball after they blocked the kick? I thought the ball was fair game with a missed kick, and they could have tried to return it. And could NM not pick it up and do anything with it either? Their guy ran around the ends, picked up the ball, then took a knee. I admit I've always been a bit fuzzy on the rules with blocked field goals.

Really exciting play calling, I think Max is so used to the screen working he needed to wait one more step, also the new plays haven't really worked all that well, but NM's strength is the front.

I may not have heard exactly correctly, but Mark Lyons said that a Field Goal that is blocked behind the line of scrimmage that then goes past the line of scrimmage cannot be advanced. But if it's recovered behind the line of scrimmage then it can be advanced.Sammich wrote:So why weren't our guys going after the ball after they blocked the kick? Impressions of first half.
Unga is punishing as always.
Chambers is playing smarter and has had some big catches.
Congrats George on the new kid and great catch for the TD.
That field may be worse than BYU's.

ESPN live showed a 5 minute look in at the time Tonga's TD was reviewed, then they showed him score. Currently at the half FSN is showing stats and talking about Hall. Wow, we're not even any kind of contenders now and we're getting exposure, MWC

That makes sense, otherwise you could just kick it off your own players and go get the ball in the endzone.hawkwing wrote:I may not have heard exactly correctly, but Mark Lyons said that a Field Goal that is blocked behind the line of scrimmage that then goes past the line of scrimmage cannot be advanced. Pretty much if you kick (punt or FG attempt) the ball and it goes beyond the line of scrimmage, it's the other teams ball.

Re: BYU - New Mexico Game thread
Our defense wants to make me pass out. How is it possible an rb can run right past 3 defenders that are untouched?
Not assignment sound today
NM showed up, we didn't
