Receiving Corps

Post by mizzoucoug »

It simply does not exist on this team. I heard all the excuses about dropped passes...what about the one where they all just suck?! Their play has been pathetic and Chambers is the number one guy who fits that bill. How many drops and fumbles can a receiver have? I am ashamed of this group of players who call themselves Cougars...if BYU can't throw the ball down the field then what is left to rely on? Simply embarrassing year so far for this group.

well, after an ugly loss like this one, at least the pressure's off to be undefeated.

Oh it exists. It's just pathetically poor. Chambers will go down as the most over-hyped player in recent history.

They just don't seem to be in synch with the QB. I think that is why they decided to stick with just one. I personally think they picked the wrong one. Riley just doesn't look like he has the arm to survive in D-1 football. And after a while they get used to reading the signes a

I wonder if it is not the arm--but the attitude of run for it if the first guy I look at is covered? 20 rushes today from Nelson! That HAS to be a record for a BYU QB

If my receivers couldn't catch or hold onto the ball and the only rb that can run ca't hold onto the ball - I would yuck and run a lot as well. The ksl announcers also said the snaps were kind if loopy getting pack to QB and punter. Airspace was calling snap counts to confuse our center and OL. Maybe it worked.

What did Bronco have to say about all of this in the call-in show?

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Did they McKay Jacobson get the ball thrown in his direction at all (minus the one where he was down for a bit)?

The receivers were awful. How much of this has to do with training w/ 2 Qs with different throwing arms and completely different styles all spring and fall. the coaches have turned what could have been an amazing thing (stockpiled at QB) into a confusing mess.
And I agree, Chambers is a liability out there and detracts more from the team that he adds.

Not that I remember. The only time I even remember hearing Jacobsen's name was when he got hurt.

Were there dropped passes today? Yes. But they weren't coming from perfect passes, either. As pathetic as Chamber's endzone drop was, the ball had also been under thrown by Nelson. I don't think it's helping our receivers to have different QB's throwing it to them, either. You've got a lefty and a right, a strong-arm and a weak-arm. Our receivers have great potential, but the way we are running our offense just isn't taking advantage of it.

The whole "QB situation" right now is retarding the progress of the entire team.
