I know, not saying that was some sort of standout defense, but still. Tide turns quickly.declocoug wrote:Then BYU went to DFW.Dcr36 wrote:Crazy thought: literally two years ago today, Hill could claim a just-barely-broken 10-quarter shutout streak to his defense.

Agreed. And change can be a very good thing.Dcr36 wrote:I know, not saying that was some sort of standout defense, but still. Re: Wow! Hill steps down.
This may cement Anae as the OC this year. If Bronco takes over the D, he's going to be spread too thin to oversee the O and he may be too afraid (as I would be) to go for a mid year hire. I guess the only likely option would be to promote from within, with the obvious choice being Doman. Maybe Reynolds? Maybe Bosco (Is he still associated with football operations?)?

Coach Hill is gone....
What does Bronco do this week? Same old? Or are we going to see a new defensive strategy and mentality? (I would hope so, otherwise what is the point of getting rid of a proven "competent" DC?)
What would you do considering the injuries that the D has seen and what is left as far as personnel? Go to the 4-3? maybe go back to Bronco's baby, the 3-3-5? SDSU just became much more interesting as teacher (Long) and protege (bronco) will square off!!!
Should be a very interesting week for the D.

I'm afraid of this very scenario.byutx wrote:This may cement Anae as the OC this year. If Bronco takes over the D, he's going to be spread too thin to oversee the O and he may be too afraid (as I would be) to go for a mid year hire.

Focusing on the defensive problems instead of the offensive nightmare is like choosing to cast your broken arm instead of getting the tumor removed from your brain.
BYU of old often let other teams score 35 or 40 points......and we'd still win because the offense wasn't offensive to watch.

Re: Coach Hill is gone....
The problem, I think, is that Bronco doesn't have anyone he feels can step in midseason and take over the offense. If he were an offensive minded coach he probably would have let go of Anae, taken over the offense, and kept Hill.

I say hire Rocky Long, after this season. Bronco's former boss, and SDSU's current defensive cordinator.
They're good friends aren't they??? I'm sure he would like to move to his birth place anyways. Plus all his defenses are very good.

I would love that. Not going to happen though, especially after we get trounced by them a week from today.BigCougsFan wrote:I say hire Rocky Long, after this season. Bronco's former boss, and SDSU's current defensive cordinator.
