How can 5-7 be a successful season?
I think we get wins against Wyoming, CSU, UNLV, and New Mexico. No chance against TCU and we would have to have a classic Utes spoiler game to beat Utah. So the last game in question is SDSU. If we lose to SDSU that means no bowl game. So if we are going to have a losing season how can it still be a successful rebuilding year? If we actually get our young players experience and figure out what we got.
We need to figure out who is going to be the primary TE and who is going to get the second reps.
We need to figure out who is going to play both CB positions.
We need to figure out who is going to play both Safety positions.
We need to figure out who is going to play middle linebacker.
We need to figure out who is going to play DE.
We need to figure out which of our WR can run routes and catch the ball.
If we don't have that established by the end of the year then all of this losing will have been for nothing. If we answer these questions and get the players who will take over at each of these positions significant playing time then we will have a huge head start on next year.
The one good thing about how bad we are sucking is I don't believe Reynolds looks like a 1st round pick right now so we will probably get him back for next season.

WE don't need to do anything. Players need to start playing like D1 athletes and making plays. They just aren't getting it done. All you and I can do is watch and post on this forum.

LOL there is not a more dysfunctional, lost program in the country right now and you think we'll just show up and beat 4 more teams this year? Even Wyoming, SDSU, and CSU have better athletes than we do right now and will smash our defense just like everyone else has. I wish it weren't true, but what in the world besides blind hope makes people think we'll beat any of these teams? 15 pts/game!

Agreed. I understand the initial venting, but if all there is to say this season is "we suck, and ________ should be held most responsible," then this board seems reduced to the Sisyphean pursuit of determining what changes need to be made, and then having zero power to actually implement said changes. (And that's not a knock on the board, maybe that really IS all there is to say. I just don't need to hear it in 25-40 variations on the same thread.)declocoug wrote:WE don't need to do anything. I'm bummed that BYU sucks this year, but I'm not going to get angry over something beyond my sphere of influence. (Although frankly, that's probably influenced by the fact that I'm more frustrated with the players than the coaches. I can understand a fan who feels that, with enough clamor, administrative changes can be made.)

We might win another game this year and we might not. I won't be surprised by a 1-win season with how horrible the team looks right now.
Here's to hoping somebody, coaches or players, starts doing something different.

A 5-7 season wouldn't be a success. But I'd rather take a 5-7 season with Heaps at the helm than a 7-5 season with Riley trying to play QB.

Re: How can 5-7 be a successful season?
The only way that a 5-7 season is a success (and I use this in the loosest sense of the word) is if it is followed by a great year with the majority of the same players on the field. If we burn this year "rebuilding" and still can't get it done next year, then it has all pretty much been a failure.
I'm just a regular, everyday normal guy,
I can't afford a car, I use public transportation,
I don't mind, I read till I reach my destination,
sometimes a newspaper, sometimes a book,
the money I save, this stuff is off the hook,

This team will win no more than 3 total games. 5-7 would be a frigging miracle.
