Re: Coach Hill is gone....
This theme that most of you think Anae and Hill were both in jeopardy and Bronco picked Hill for now and Anae for Dec 1 does not make sense. It is too inconsistent with prior context. Bronco hired both. He made Anae OC instead of Reynolds whom almost got the job instead of Bronco. He promoted Hill recently. At the end of last season he hinted that 2 or as many as 3 would get jobs elsewhere during the offseason in a way I took as meaning opportunities for them to move up or ahead. He gave no hint of losing confidence.
Perhaps Hill told Bronco, this year that unless Bronco stepped back and let Hill run the show, he couldn't be expected to improve the D. Maybe this was the only way for Bronco to stick his nose back in the D. Another possibility - black people are hard to fire - especially by an employer that does not have many, due to affirmative action. Clear warnings, documentation, and opportunity to succeed that can be measuredcare needed. Maybe Bronco has been trying to make this change and the HR attorneys said. - first u have to give him full authority and then you have to keep out of his way. Or the lack of player support, if true would nevcisitate a change. Or finger pointing bs offense in front of the team if there was any, maybe the rumored incident of a coach fight with O'neil Chambers over lack of hustle was instigated by Hill. I do not have any idea what happened, but having fired many people, these scenarios are more plausible.
But if folks are right and Broncovmade a bad hire wit Hill compounded by a bad promotion and made a bad hire of Anar and OC choice over Reynolds, what does that say about Bronco's ability to choose talented assistants? Firing both - bang bang would be tough to explain.
I think Bronco is fair and has integrity. We may never know the full story here as he won't try to throw Hill under the public bus.
Finally, Holmoe and Bosco have plenty of ability to be interim coaches if Bronco really doesxwant to make another change and Reynolds has upside. Interesting fans are not criticizing the QB coach a bit more - probably getting cut slack due to perception that Anae favored Nelson and Doman was a Heaps guy-call it Heaps Honeymoon Syndrome

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Why should Doman be getting heat right now?

I don't think Doman should and I am just surprised that the ridiculous outpouring of fan angst hasn't unfairly nabbed him for not recognizing talent and decisively picking one and going to war for that choice and for taking so darn long to get Heaps ready.
Now, I subscribe to none of that - I don't think any of our 4 QBs were a clear choice. Nelson, if healthy was the best early choice, but he was clearly at risk for injury being a running QB with poor protection, and a backup needed to be brought along quickly, and that was not going to be easy no matter who the back-up was, and that Heaps should be carefully groomed and prepared with minimized risk of injury or being thrown to the sharks.
And I knew it was all a very tall order.
I support all of the coaches unless one of them was not being a humble team guy.

So let me get me get this straight: Doman hasn't done anything wrong, but because we are all such big Heaps lovin' idiots you are surprised we aren't just grabbing bodies and throwing them in the fire?Cougarbib2 wrote:BlueisBetter wrote:Why should Doman be getting heat right now?Cougarbib2 wrote:Interesting fans are not criticizing the QB coach a bit more - probably getting cut slack due to perception that Anae favored Nelson and Doman was a Heaps guy-call it Heaps Honeymoon Syndrome

I'm just a regular, everyday normal guy,
I can't afford a car, I use public transportation,
I don't mind, I read till I reach my destination,
sometimes a newspaper, sometimes a book,
the money I save, this stuff is off the hook,

Re: Coach Hill is gone....
Ya'll need to remember that Hill was supposed to be totally autonomous this year. Last year he was "the guy" at D, but Bronco helped some to prep. This year Hill was supposed to make all adjustments, make all calls, and you can see in the game that Bronco is totally hands off. Bronco actually looks pretty pissed (in his eyes - kinda like Lavell would) on TV when they cut to him and the D just gave up another 3rd and long. I mean... if Hill was such and awesome coordinater we would not be giving up 3rd and long like it was going out of style.
Something had to be done. I think if Max Hall were still here -- and you had an experience QB that could call plays and audibles -- and offense was anemic because of lack of the run, etc. Then maybe you would see OC fired over DC -- maybe not. But, Max carried last years offensive play calling - especially 2 minute drives.

Re: Coach Hill is gone....
Guys, here is the reason Hill got fired. We have a young offense that isn't very good, our defense was supposed to carry us this year while the offense grows. Here are some telling stats
Utah state 1st half statistics: 5 total drives, 4 scores (3 td's and a FG)
Nevada 1st half statistics: 6 total drives 4 scores (3td's and a FG)
FSU, first half was good, we had a chance in that game in the first half but in the second, here is the drive chart: 4 total drives, 4 scores (3 td's and a FG)
AF: Was more methodical, they scored 3 times out of 5 drives in the first half and 2 times on 5 drives in the second.
My point is, the offense has been bad but that is predictable when you replace Max hall with a True freshman, Dennis Pitta with 5 freshman, Harvey Unga with a Jr (who has never started) and a true freshman.
My observations on the Defense is that the players are out of position most of the time and can't make up for that with their speed. the reason our defense always looks slow is because they take bad angles on ball carriers and aren't filling gaps correctly. How many times have you seen someone streak through a hole only to miss the ball carrier and let him get to the outside for a big gain? Last year BYU was great at stringing ball carriers trying to get to the outside all the way to the sideline and then gang tackling them. I was getting sick of it. Yes the offense is bad, but the defense has not given them a chance to win, especially the last couple of weeks. You can't give up 24 points in a half and expect a true freshman to throw us back into a game, it just isn't going to work. Something had to be done and Bronco has done it. If we have any chance this year at salvaging this season, it is going to have to come on the backs of the D.

Re: Coach Hill is gone....
My thoughts exactly. Something needs to be done on both ends, but not only is Hill putting guys out of position, but a lot of his guys don't want to play for him, and it shows. They have no heart out there, no passion.frdbtr wrote:Guys, here is the reason Hill got fired.
