The real issue we're not talking about!
Ok, I'll freely admit this may have just been me and the TV I was the game at. Although it was at my friend's home theater. The broadcast was in HD on a 180" screen, but our helmets didn't match our uniforms.
It looked to me that our helmets were an egg-shell or off-white color while our uniforms were bright white. Did anyone else notice this?

I noticed it. USU's helmets were white while ours were off-white.

I thought that was a factor in Heaps' first INT. He couldn't see the jersey and threw it to the wrong hat.kitic77 wrote:Ok, I'll freely admit this may have just been me and the TV I was the game at. Just a thought.

Re: The real issue we're not talking about!
this has been an issue for me for a long time. To me this just shows a half hearted effort at doing things right. Granted we are not the only institution with "visual problems." Not only are the helmets yellow but the blues don't match either. The problem that most uniforms designers run into is that they only consider the uni in controlled light and up close. However for 98% of the people watching see it on TV or from a long distance in the stadium and that under varying light conditions. To get something visually correct you can't just go by the numbers on the colors. The white helmet actually needs some silver in it to appear white under playing conditions because of the way the materials act in sun light. The blues also need to be enriched in order to appear blue and not black. Also to the eye colors are not constant. Or in other words when we see blue we do not just see one shade of blue, to make it register as blue to our brains. What I am saying is that in order to be accurate to the eye colors must be "cheated" a little. One good example can be found in various artwork on websites or elsewhere where we often see the blue in the blue oval and Y as having dark edges and a lighter or brighter center. This registers with the brain as being correct. The flat dark blue on the helmets confuses the brain as it tries to color correct the image but it struggles because it doesn't know if it is dealing with blue or black.kitic77 wrote:Ok, I'll freely admit this may have just been me and the TV I was the game at. I have always wanted to see a little "smoke" to the helmets to avoid yellowing and at the same time make the "Y' pop out as a bright white. I would also make the blues a bit brighter in the center and darker to the outside. These changes will make it easier on the eye to see blue and eliminate the frustration of the brain as it tries to sort it out.

That is by far the most in depth analysis of uniform colors I've ever read. I have no idea if it's correct but it sounds great.

We should give the colors back to USU - they earned them back Friday.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Ah yes totally! No offense kittic cause i like you and all, and I'm sure you're in your only little way joking but this has to be one of the lamest threads I've clicked on to in some time.... But you got people commenting on it so that's gotta be worth something! And in all honesty this topic probably beats out any of the Jake vs Riley threads.

I don't know. My wife says it's the reason we lost. "See," she said. "Utah State's helmets match their uniforms and their kicking our butts."
Ninety-five percent of the lawyers make the other five percent of us look bad.

Or BYU could go back to royal blue, change their field to match the color of their uniforms and switch to royal blue helmuts.
No one has ever tried that before.
