Jake wasn't serious. He just did it to light a fire in his girl and get her to keep working hard on the wedding and showing she really loves him.fifthqb wrote:I also heard from a player's girlfriend, that Jake is serious trouble with the honor code. Apparently he proposed to another girl, but it might be ok because general conference is coming and they could bring IT back. Stay tuned.

Re: Inside Information - Lark to get 1 reps
Heading has typo - Lark is to get 1 Rep not #1 Reps. Heaps - aka the Rising Tide - will still be lifting all the boats - if he bulks up a little and works hard enoughdmcougar wrote:I heard fifthqb is Lark.
I also heard that Bib is going to be flown in to show Heaps how to work hard.
Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

I owe it all to you. You inspire me to new heights. I decided to work harder myself and research the cause of the rising tide. Humbled and corrected, I discovered at Wikipedia that I have been wrong about what caused the rising tide as were other BYU fans. It was not Heaps, Mendenhall, the firing of Hill, Anae, or HIggins, or just experience increasng over time for all players, or even the weaker opposing forces late in the season. It wasn't the emerence of leadership, the bye weak, or even working harder.
It was the SUN and the MOON - surprisingly not the efforts of the STAR.

From Wikipedia re High Tide:
Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun and the rotation of the Earth.
Most places in the ocean usually experience two high tides and two low tides each day (semidiurnal tide), but some locations experience only one high and one low tide each day (diurnal tide). The times and amplitude of the tides at the coast are influenced by the alignment of the Sun and Moon, by the pattern of tides in the deep ocean (see figure 4) and by the shape of the coastline and near-shore bathymetry (see figure 7).[1][2][3]
Tides vary on timescales ranging from hours to years due to numerous influences. To make accurate records, tide gauges at fixed stations measure the water level over time. Gauges ignore variations caused by waves with periods shorter than minutes. These data are compared to the reference (or datum) level usually called mean sea level.[4]
While tides are usually the largest source of short-term sea-level fluctuations, sea levels are also subject to forces such as wind and barometric pressure changes, resulting in storm surges, especially in shallow seas and near coasts.
Tidal phenomena are not limited to the oceans, but can occur in other systems whenever a gravitational field that varies in time and space is present. For example, the solid part of the Earth is affected by tides.

I forgot to admit that I stole the notion about the boats from John F. Kennedy and used it out of context but now realize he stole it from the New England Chamber of Commerce and used it out of context himself. Controversy seems to follow the BOATS THEORY everywhere it is FLOATED.Cougarbib2 wrote:dmcougar wrote:Relentless, Bib. Relentless. I'm starting to love it. More from WIkipedia:
The aphorism "a rising tide lifts all boats" is associated with the idea that improvements in the general economy will benefit all participants in that economy, and that economic policy, particularly government economic policy, should therefore focus on the general macroeconomic environment first and foremost. The phrase is attributed to John F Kennedy[1], who used the phrase in a 1963 speech to combat criticisms that a dam project he was inaugurating was a pork barrel project.[2][3] However the phrase has been used more commonly to defend tax cuts and other policies where the initial beneficiaries are high income earners.[4]
In Ted Sorensen’s memoir, Counselor: A Life At The Edge Of History, he reveals that the phrase was not one of his or the president’s own fashioning. It was in his first year working for Kennedy (during JFK’s tenure in the Senate), when Mr. Sorensen was trying to tackle economic problems in New England, that he happened upon the phrase. He writes that he noticed that “the regional chamber of commerce, the New England Council, had a thoughtful slogan: ‘A rising tide lifts all the boats.’” From then on, JFK would borrow the slogan often. Sorensen highlights this as an example of quotes mistakenly attributed to President Kennedy.[5]
The expression also applies to free-market policies, in that comparative-advantage production and subsequent trade would theoretically increase incomes for all participating entities. It is said to be a favorite proverb of former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin.[6] However, Gene Sperling, Bill Clinton’s former economic advisor, has opined that, in the absence of appropriate policies 'the rising tide will lift some boats, but others will run aground'.[3][7]
The substantive aspect of the statement is that economic growth which raises the GDP of the entire economy will also raise the incomes of all of the individuals within the economy. However, not all industries track the overall economy, and the creative destruction process of capitalism requires inefficient industries to yield to more efficient industries. For the aphorism to be strictly true, one would never expect to see a 'going out of business' sign during a rising economy. There are many examples in economic history in which an increase in GDP per capita did not raise the incomes of large groups of individuals in the society. According to the US Census, the real per-capita GDP in the United States increased by 71% between 1980 and 2006, but median household income increased by less than 20%[citation needed].Between 1960 and 1980, the top 1% in the United States took home less than 10% of all U.S. income. In 2006, the best paid 1% took home 20.3%.[8]
