Re: Dead Girlfriend Hoax--Once again a T'eo Story Falls Apar
Teammates are saying he was dating other girls while at Notre Dame. I would hate to treat the love of my life that way. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1489 ... riend-hoax
So he either greatly exaggerated the "relationship" he thought he had, and then lied to cover up his embarassment both of the nature of the on-line relationship (so he lies and says they met after a football game) and the fact that it was a hoax (makes up a bunch of details so he isn't seen as foolish). The only other plausible answer is that he was in on it from the beginning.
When I read the details from SI's article, it seems like he is a pathological liar. If you believe all he said, Lennay had a bad streak of luck--hit by drunk driver, severe injuries, in a coma, his talking to her on the phone helped her breathing while in a coma (not the ventelator--OK, that's my TIC), she flat lined twice, they were going to pull the plug, she miraculously comes out of a coma, expresses pain in back and burning in chest--which has to be leukemia right, not some result of being hit by a drunk driver. Has a bone marrow transplant, and then dies a few months after being first diagnosed with leukemia--oh yeah, six hours after his real grandmother dies. Oh, and the 22 year old just graduated with an English degree and something else, but took over running a Construction company once her father passed away. I know lots of major construction companies that hand over the reigns to recent English graduates because their parent's die. She also taught at some Elementary schools and traveled to New Zealand to teach there too. So, that's four jobs for a recent college graduate. And they say the economy is tough right now...

I'm not sure what the end game was--Covering up for being duped into fake online relationship by telling lies, or being in on the hoax from the beginning to generate Heisman sympathy buzz. Whatever it is, the man has some 'splaining to do.

Re: Dead Girlfriend Hoax--Once again a T'eo Story Falls Apar
What I am still wondering is why ND backed Manti like they did.
My theory is that they are throwing Manti under the bus - letting him take the fall and pretending they were duped by him too. It already looks really bad from ND from a PR standpoint - they knew about this before the NC game, but kept silent. They are already caught in a cover up. So they decided to play along and pretend that they 100% believe Manti, then when Manti comes clean or the evidence becomes too overwhelming, ND can just say "We were duped by him too!!" It may be the best way they could think of to "save face".
I dunno. Just a thought.

Wow...he was dating wonder woman.
I doubt we ever get an explanation. He'll stay silent on the issue. The more he opens his mouth the bigger the hole he digs.

Manti is on the cover of the print version of USA today. Mentioned with Bernie Madoff, Lance Armstrong, & Michael Vick. Kind of glad he wasn't a cougar.

Re: Dead Girlfriend Hoax--Once again a T'eo Story Falls Apar
Teo was duped - embellished the depth of his relationship to make it look like more than it was - and has just made it worse since discovering he was duped. It is a very interesting tangled web once his whole GF that actually seems to have been perpetuated by a guy plays out. Great Tabloid stuff.
I had two different "girl friends" killed in separate car accidents in high school and a 3rd critically injured but not killed in a 3rd accident where several classmates were killed.
The quotes are there because the timing and circumstances. But, I had feelings at some level for each one.
In one case, I had met her at a dance and we danced the night away and planned to get together again soon. Her car was hit in a highly publicized crash about a week later. I had not been in the picture long enough for her parents to even know I existed. I liked her. We were not soulmates. But I felt like a friend had died. A girl friend in the making.
The 2nd one was a former girl friend. We lived 30 miles apart. Occasionally saw each other. Wrote to each other. Then eventually, I quit writing. Later, I moved and we were classmates. Started talking about going out again. I really liked her. She was killed shortly after we talked about that. I certainly felt the loss and felt I had lost a friend. A girl friend.
The third one was someone I had a previously had a short relationship with. I had no plans to reignite that relationship but considered her to be a friend.
The emotions of a sense of loss were real. Did I over romanticize the losses at the time in my own mind - IDK.
Obviously TEO made more of his relationshio than was real having been duped, but seems to have even embellished it beyond what he even could have thought was real having claimed to have met her in person.
I really do not see some deep, calculated conspiracy in his part - probably sime real feelings at I be level embellished to a higher level while caught up I n the moment - fed by media frenzy to create a story - TEO took the bait - hooked - in over his head - made things worse trying to sweep it under the rug.
He is not perfect. Probably not evil, though.
Now - the guy pretending to be the GF - he has some real issues.
Unless TEO is shown to have known all along and fabricated the whole thing for Heisman glory
I will be hopeful that this all gets cleared up and that history judges him a but less harshly.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

I hope what you say ends up being true. But if it is... why doesn't he just come out of hiding and SAY it? He will look better doing that than how he looks now, hiding down in Florida...Cougarbib wrote: I will be hopeful that this all gets cleared up and that history judges him a but less harshly.

Re: Dead Girlfriend Hoax--Once again a T'eo Story Falls Apar
Even if Te'o was duped in the beginning, it is indisputable from his and ND's own information that after he allegedly found out about the hoax on 12/6, he perpetuated it in interviews over the next week plus. If you were really duped, upon finding out, WHY would you keep the deception going unless....? At a bare minimum he embellished and enhanced the story for his benefit. And that is if what he says is the case, and right now, upon what basis do we have to believe that his claim he was duped is true? His word?

Maybe. He also may have been in on the entire thing with his friend in order to drum up some positive media and help his Heisman campaign. We will never know for sure how much he was in on setting the whole farce up.Cougarbib wrote:Teo was duped - embellished the depth of his relationship to make it look like more than it was - and has just made it worse since discovering he was duped. Either way, he's a pathological liar.
