I was thinking the same thing.

My wife ran on the cross country team that won back to back national titles in '99 and 2000. While she didn't run at nationals (just missed the cut by a couple of seconds) she was on the team both those years and contributed significantly in races that got BYU to nationals. The team will be honored at half time during the Boise game, but only the 7 women that ran at nationals will be able to go on the field, which is understandable. All the team members will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

I would have thought at the very least BYU would have offered some "affordable" tickets for team members to purchase so at the very least they could be there in-person while they watched their teammates get recognized and in some small way also get to participate in the ceremony. But, I don't run BYU's athletic department...

Was thinking of calling the Alumi association or whomever is handling the ceremony. These women ran hard, contributed to the team and BYU. Plus, it's important for me to show my daughter the cool things her mother did and something she can aspire to as well. Moments like these are priceless.

I bet contacting the Cougar Club or even BYU Tickets and while they may not let you in for the game, they might let you in at halftime and watch from the sidelines.

I think BYU is doing it right. The tickets are selling, so they are not overpriced. If they were, the market would say so, and BYU would lower them. And when compared to other similar programs, the pricing is right on.

Complaining about tickets prices is like peeing into the wind. You might feel relieved when you;re done going, but you also look kinda silly.

By the way Gunk, congrats to your wife. Great accomplishment,

Gunk, that's awesome that they are going to honor those teams! Who is your wife? I was on the XC team in 2000 so I probably know her. Thanks for letting me know they're going to honor the teams at halftime!

An 85, 000 seat stadium that fills up creates the economics to get those 1 and done and 2 for 1 teams to come to Provo straight up. Probably also increases conference appeal and D4 inclusion liklihood.

Depends what you're charging for the tickets. 85% of the Jazz revenues comes from the lower bowl which is considerably less than 85% of capacity.

I agree. It only works out if you have the fanbase to consistently sell out the 85, 000 seats. There are probably less than 25 programs that can do that. IDK. Maybe a lot less.

This is directly tied to independence. We have an awesome slate of home games this season and it's paying dividends.

This year it is. I split 3 tickets with my brother this year and its $450 each for seats at the 12 yard line. It's going to be a lot harder for me to do that when we don't have 4 really good games. Most of my friends that went to the U games pre-Urban don't go any more because it has gotten too expensive. It's easier to watch from home on a big screen and have it be a 3 1/2 hour game instead of a 7-8 hour game when you travel to the game.

I've been to nearly all of the games except during my mission since 1990. I'm died in the wool but it's a lot of money. If/when my dad gets too old to go we'll probably move to the endzone seats just to save money. It'll be like coming home as I used to sit next to the guy that released the pigeons after TD's in the south endzone.

here is my 0.2 on Byu ticket prices.

Byu is unique in its fan bases family size. The cheap seats should stay cheap so families can afford to go. The west, east bench and lower end zones can be considered prime seats. The upper half of the endzones I'd like to see a fair deal.
The demand has been so good lately that the upper endzones are in demand so there you go.
You could say stadium expansion would work to make room for the demand for people on a budget. Problem is that I'm sure an expansion would go along with higher prices to make up the cost.

Maybe pick the last ten rows in the upper endzones and price them low and throw in hotdogs for the fan ( ala jazz games ) Some creative marketing to let the public know it the family zone etc..

BYU really has some marquee home matchups in 2013! The Ewete game is always priced at a premium. FSU and TCU games were similarly priced in the past. BYU wisely priced the Texas and Boise St. at a premium as well.

In 2014, there are not the same type of premium games. Expect the 2014 prices to reflect that. However, the 2014 prices WILL BE affected by BYU's 2013 performance. If BYU has a great year and finishes ranked and looks to start the 2014 season in the rankings, then the demand for tickets will still be high, and prices will reflect that.

More and more of the "cheap seats" are being used for the students as well.

The problem with making cheap seats available is that they all get snatched up by scalpers and resold at what the market will pay anyway, so it's a false solution.

I know a number of Legacy ticket holders who bought their full allotment this season, not because they would actually use them, but with an eye towards resale and recouping the cost of the tickets they actually use. You buy 6 tickets you actually use between the 30s, and then buy your other 6 in the endzones for $180 a pop, resell the endzone tickets and you've made enough profit to cover more than half of your sideline seats.

The sad thing is that there is really no solution other than making tickets non-transferrable, which is a complete non-starter.
