BYU Cougarettes Kick A$$ at Nationals

Excuse the French in the title, but the BYU Cougarettes are the newest national champions in precision dance team in the Hip Hop. Hip Hop you say???? Yes, in Hip Hop.

Sad to say, they didn't come in first place in the Team Dance competition -- by less than a single one-hundredth of a point.

With 10 national championships to their credit in the last 15 years, the Cougarettes are easily the most successful program in the university's entire athletic department, and while the casual fan may not know that, the university certainly appreciates it.

"We have such amazing support," said Cougarettes artistic director Jodi Maxfield. "We feel very fortunate to be in an athletic department that values their team as much as ours does. That's not the case at every school across the country."

The Cougarettes wrapped up their most recent triumph earlier this month in Daytona Beach, Fla., site of the National Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship, where they claimed the national title in hip-hop for the second straight year. They also finished second in the Team Dance competition -- by less than a single one-hundredth of a point.
