 Here are BYU's rushing vs passing attempts since our SR QB returned from injury:

OSU: 33 rushing attempts 51 passing attempts

ND: 25 Rushing attempts 36 passing attempts.

So from my calculations, BYU has thrown more than it has run with Riley as the starting QB. Everyone got on Doman from his "bastardised" running offense when Taysom was starting at qb. I explained that Doman designed an offense that the Freshman was comfortable with that played to his strengths and I was right. Since Riley has been starting everyone has been saying that doman's play calling has been "fine" but Riley sucks. Funny how that works.

fried butter... long time, no see. :D Hope all is well. The only reason that ratio is 60/40 passing is because the Cougs were kept on their heels vs. the Beavers all game long 2 weeks ago and had to try and play catch up, especially midway through the 4th quarter on, not to mention their inability to run on Notre Dame. The play-calling isn't the main problem though... it's Riley's lack of arm strength, his inability to hit two talented receivers downfield with any kind of regularity and the refusal by Bronco & Doman to give the only QB with arm strength (Lark) a chance to play to see what he can do and whether or not he can improve the offense.

At this point, it makes absolutely no sense to continue playing Riley... there is nothing left to play for except eligibility for a meaningless Poinsettia Bowl, Riley isn't going to the NFL and doesn't need to showcase or try and put up stats for anyone and you may as well see what Lark has since he can at least throw the ball downfield to Hoffman, Apo and Friel. You don't need Riley's running/scrambling ability with Williams in the backfield and how do we know Lark isn't a gamer like other former BYU QB's that came off the bench to excel (like Doman did)? Some guys thrive in the moment and adrenalin of being in the ring in a real game situation and suck as practice players. This Bronco-Riley love affair is going to go down in the history books as one of the strangest relationships ever between a coach and a QB who's lucky to be playing at the D I-A level.

If Taysom was healthy I would feel very comfortable, I now think this could go either way. It is time to break in Lark, time to air it out a bit and give the kid a shot.

Riley should have been relegated to 3rd string after the Utah game.

Lark did get to play some against Weber but I don't know if that even gives us any idea of what he could do in a close game and against a D1 defense.

The fact that they are playing Riley over Lark is irrelavant to the statement that you made. You made a derogatory statement that Doman woudn't come out calling passes and I showed you where you were wrong. Also, as far as only throwing because we were behind, the OSU game was 21-21 going into the 4th and 28-24 with 9 minutes left in the quarter, I know I was there. Notre Dame BYU led all the way into the 4th and the run pass numbers are almost even, it had nothing to do with being unable to run on them. Your argument has no merit.

It was more TIC than anything - it's just that the BYU coaches seem to have a knack for doing the opposite of what they should against the strengths/weaknesses of the opposing team sometimes.

Also, as far as only throwing because we were behind, the OSU game was 21-21 going into the 4th and 28-24 with 9 minutes left in the quarter, I know I was there.

I know too - I was listening on the radio (Greg Wrubell - ugghh) - and the Cougs never had a lead in the game and were constantly having to match OSU scores and running the ball wasn't going to accomplish that.

Notre Dame BYU led all the way into the 4th and the run pass numbers are almost even, it had nothing to do with being unable to run on them.

Of course not, even though the Cougs averaged 16.5 yards rushing per quarter.

Your argument has no merit.

No, you just get upset and offended when someone points out glaring problems.

So let me get this straight - Georgia Tech has piled up some gaudy stats vs a significantly weaker SOS than BYU has played. Shocking. How could this happen.

The biggest problem with this game is that once again we are playing a reasonably good team on the Road.

Experts can argue all day whether home field advantage is worth 3 points or 7. Apply either number of points to our three road losses, and you get two ties and a win. Kick a field goal and bam 3-0. OSU was just a much better team that got two very fortunate bounces leading to a melt-down.

Wait until next year - and you will see what a difference SOS plays.

AW - things have really gotten bad over on the Hill, haven't they. Shouldn't you be busy analyzing the Ute's next loss and the increasing clouds over their bowl plans. It is unfortunate that they no longer seem able to keep U entertained.
