New Big 12 - Do we want in?
It sounds like the new rumor is that if OU, OSU, UT, and TT go to the Pac 16 that the remaining Big 12 and Big East football schools would join to keep the Big 12 alive. It's rumored that Uconn and Rutgers also could get taken by the ACC and West Virginia gets taken by the SEC. Assuming there are no more Big East teams stolen by the ACC or SEC it would look like this:
Baylor
Missouri
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
South Florida
Louisville
Cincinnati
TCU
Maybe:
Uconn
Rutgers
West Virginia
It sounds like Notre Dame will likely end up in the ACC if super conferences happen, so the ACC may wait to get to 16 so that they have a spot for Notre Dame instead of taking both Uconn and Rutgers. West Virginia is probably gone to the SEC as soon as Texas A&M gets past the law suits. My guess is Rutgers ends up not getting an invite to the ACC so this is probably a ten team league.
If invited, should BYU consider joining this group? Is it better than independent in the super conference era? Would this conference have the same standing as the other super conferences? If not, would this conference have a better standing than a combined Mtn West and Conference USA football conference?
If you add Boise State does it make it more desirable to join? Would they consider Boise State?
If you then add Houston, Tulsa, SMU, Air Force etc to make it a 16 team league do we want in? What other option do we have?
What four schools is the Big 10 going to end up taking to get to 16?

Rumor this morning is that W. VA has been turned down by SEC and ACC and has notified Big Easy it will stay put. According to rumor and unsubstantiated sources, of course.

Anae just might be the guy. Wisconsin DC says Anae is totally unpredictable because he just runs a bunch of plays with no rhyme or reason. Whooped Butt on Houston DC for 3 of 4 quarters. Destroyed Texas DC and HC careers.

Would this new Big 12 want BYU if it was football only? BYU might be interested in that if they could keep their other sports in the WCC.
BYU PER W/L Since 1972: 432-76 (.850)
(8.4xYDS)+(330xTD)+(100xCOM)-(200xINT)

This is from a West Virginia news source. Neither the ACC nor the SEC want West Virginia.

BYU should watch Notre Dame. If Notre Dame jumps to a conference, BYU should go all out in trying to hop back in. But BYU would do well to look at football only options. BYU's new relationship with the WCC is going to be strong on many different levels, many of which do not involve sports, but that are more important to BYU and the Church.
I still think there is a decent chance that Texas goes independent. If that's the case, BYU would be in a sweet position to develop long term relationships with Texas, Army, and Navy. With Notre Dame already in the mix, those 4 schools could provide a nice foundation for October and November scheduling.
BYU should only consider a football only Big XII/Big East membership if Texas stays (but OKlahoma and OSU bolt).

Re: New Big 12 - Do we want in?
A resounding YES from me. I think that is a fairly solid conference that we should join and would be fun, challenging schedule that would get us all over the US.
I think a conference with those names would get respect and would have access to the national championship which, itself, will help strengthen the conference over time.
Plus, it will be better to get in NOW at the start so that our influence is set from the beginning rather than trying to join later and implement things like Sunday play rule, tv network, etc.
This is a no brainer, and I'd be excited about the future schedule in a conference that looked like this.

Yes. Without delay.
Let's see. If BYU was in the Big 12 this year, going 1-2 OOC would not be an issue, as BYU could still win the conference and get into a BCS game.

I say take it and move everything. Sorry to the WCC but BYU and the WCC is not a match made in heaven. Tell me players would rather meet Gonzaga, St Mary's and play in a lot of high school gyms or play Kansas, Cinn., Marquette, etc every year. Hands down take it. And get into a BCS conference so you have the chance of moving into a super conf down the road (SEC or Big 10).

you typically only see teams reach the BCS that manage to score more than 1 TD per game.88Coug wrote:Yes. Without delay.
