Catcher in the Rye was just a dumb book.

Man's Search for Meaning is very good too.

Man's Search for Meaning is one of those books that should be on everyone's must read list, not for litature's sake but for perspective's sake.

100% agree, I don't know how we all forgot about listing it until now.

Anyone mention H.G. Wells "The Time Machine" yet? Definitely a classic.

All Quiet on the Western Front is my favorite "classic". Not sure you can get better descriptive writing anywhere, you feel a part of the story.

Historical Fictions: Leon Uris is hard to beat. Amazing character development. The Haj, QB7 and Trinity are three that come to mind as ones I really liked. Really Insightful.

Also agree with whoever mentioned Chaim Potok, loved those you mentioned.

Modern Thrillers (non-classics, just for enjoyment): Vince Flynn or Brad Thor novels. Maybe worthless in the grand scheme, but I like reading them.

I'm a pretty avid reader, so certain authors have trapped me into reading pretty much everything they write (or wrote).

If you haven't discovered Alistair MacLean's books, you should give them a go. You have probably heard of "The Guns of Navarone", or maybe "Ice Station Zebra", both of which were made into movies. My favorite of his was "HMS Ulysses". You could read it on a hot day and swear you were freezing to death. His best books were his first books. (He died in 1987).

Another book I read recently was "Inkheart". I enjoyed the story a great deal, and it was more complete than the movie (although I also liked the movie). I'm looking forward to reading the sequels.

Right now I'm reading "Inheritance" - the fourth book in the "Eragon" series. My only problem there is trying to remember what happened in the previous books. Great series!
