Also, to dm's point, after going a single digits percentage from 3 point land their first game (8% = 1 for 13) it is painfully obvious what they lack, and what they need.

What they DON'T need is a big man that takes up minutes, and gives them more of what they already have. What they need is shooting, and someone that can create off the dribble.

BlueIsBetter you realize that shooting and scoring isn't the only thing that is important in basketball?

Jimmer is inept at defense as Kanter is at offense.

Kanter's D is passable like Jimmer ability to drive on a NBA court.

Jimmer's elite skill is shooting.

Kanter rebounds the ball at an elite rate. In 17.5 minutes per game, he gets 8 rebounds.

IMO Kanter has the physical ability to grow into a very good defender and passable offensive NBA player.

Also is it really fair to compare a player who played no college games to one that played 4 years?

The Kings are looking horrible vs the Bulls and nobody is playing defense. It's almost as if they know they have no chance. Why no one has been benched yet is astounding. Brick, brick, brick.

And then the Jimmer comes in and they start playing better.

I'm sorry, but if you think Jimmer doesn't play defense, you haven't watched him play an nba game. He plays some of the best defense on the Kings. His coach has even said so.

Sorry, try again. :)

Fairness? Its called market value. If the jazz keep picking 5 year projects that might work out they are headed toward bankruptcy. It doesn't matter jack that the guy didn't play college. If that is a variable the jazz failed to consider it is to their demise.

Jimmer was 5-10 (2-4 3pt) for 14 pts in 24 mins against the Bulls. (Bulls are a dang good defensive team on the perimeter, too)

Also had 3 assists.

Jazz don't need "prospects." Especially another big man prospect. They need a shooter, right away. Let someone else gamble on Kanter, and invest the time he needs to mature into - maybe - a productive player.

Jimmer is plug-and-play offense/shooting. Plain and simple. And I say again, if you think he doesn't play at least average man to man defense, you haven't seen him play in the NBA.

OR, you haven't noticed how poor in general defense is in the NBA. Jimmer does alright on D. He gets lost sometimes and sucks into the middle a bit too much (as if he's going to challenge boozer or Noah, lol) but he's learning and he's doing what he's supposed to... score.

Jimmer played all of the defense of a cardboard cut-out against Chicago. Of course, his teammates weren't any better. Their best play was missing a lay-up and then watching the Bulls score in transition. It was horrible.

Still, Jimmer hit two 3s, and that was the main reason I had the game on in the first place!

Fesenko is more valuable than Kanter.

I'm trying to figure out if you're serious about this, or if you wrote it in jest? Fesenko was a big dude, but had few to no NBA skills.

I like Kanter. He's a fantastic rebounder. Has nice hands. Uses his body well. He's got nice form on his shot--not that he's expected to be shooting jumpers, but at least he can shoot free throws. He does look lost quite a but out there, but so does the rest of the team. That's to be expected for a hodge podge group of players with a rookie coach and very little training camp. He does actually have some moves around the basket, contrary to what most around here apparently believe.

No doubt Jimmer is a better basketball player today than Kanter. As a Jazz and Jimmer fan, I'm also glad he didn't end up in Utah. It would have been a circus for him. I'm glad to see he's doing pretty well on a different team.

No you're right to an extent. The point is that Fesenko might actually have been better this year and next than kanter. A project is still a project. And though early, I would say his value will never exceed the relative value Jimmer will bring during his career.
