I'm pretty sure he's a big cougar supporter, but doesn't let it out while on the job. He's not a sportscaster, just a regular news guy, so it doesn't usually become an issue. Might get interesting if the Rebels get matched up with BYU in the tournament. I'm sure his coworkers won't let his BYU allegiance go untouched.

He used to be UNLV's football play-by-play announcer, for 14 years. He also did UNLV basketball for TV. The Rebel version of Greg Wrubell. He was also a Las Vegas news sportscaster for 13 years. All of which helps him sound non-homerish when doing BYU sports broadcasts.

I was referring to what he does now, he is not the sports guy. From his bio on the channel 8 website, where he works down here, he sounds like a BYU guy:
"Dave McCann is in his 19th year at KLAS-TV and is co-anchor of "8 News Now This Morning" with Dayna Roselli. Dave spent 13 years anchoring sports at Channel 8 and served as radio play-by-play voice for UNLV football for 14 seasons. He is currently the play-by-play voice for BYU football and basketball on BYUTV.
Dave is the third oldest of 10 children and grew up in Orem, Utah. He served a two-year Mormon Mission to San Antonio, Texas before graduating from BYU in 1991. During his senior year of college, Dave was hired by ABC's "Good Morning America" as its first college reporter."
