BYU - An 8 or 9 Loss Team - Probably Can't Dance

You can only lose once in the WCC Tournament. One loss there. Gonna lose 1 or 2 to the Zags. Iirc we have 6 losses after tonight. Saint Mary's twice and Baylor and Wisconsin could happen to lots of teams. LMU and USU were unfortunate. We were projected at 3rd in WCC - still have a long shot at 2nd. If only we could still make long shots.



If we somehow sweep Zags and SMU sweeps Zags, even with a WCC Tournament loss to SMC - I think we still dance. It might come down to Zags or BYU.

We are not an at-large bid team this season and after tonight consider our bubble popped. We have no marquee wins and a win against the Zags on either court is looking like a tall order right now.



Only way we go dancing is if we win the WCC tournament, which will take a miracle.



I hope this loss finally lights a fire under our guys. It wasn't till the last 10 min that we looked like we were actually playing. We've been flat for a month. No hussle. No urgency. No fight.

We still have the tourny to go. Take care of business the rest of the way and we still have a good shot at the dance. We lost twice to NM last year and beat them in the tourny. Also, SDST lost to us twice and ended up winning the tourny. So maybe we get a "third time is a charm" type of thing and beat them in the tourny to take the autobid.



But we have got to start hitting the shots. I like what Carlino did and it was so very needed by this team.

Carlino finally understood that it's easier to score from one foot than from 25. If he continues to think instead of throwing it up, the Cougars just might have a chance to be tourney champs.

BYU isn't an NCAA team this year which is a shame because the best player in the WCC isn't going to get to go dancing this year in his final season.

I agree. After watching the game last night I felt we were exposed. We have a good team. Not a great team. We showed streaks @ the end of our potential. It needs to be sustained for a whole game to make it to the Madness.



All in all, it was a discouraging game with glimmers of hope.

Have to agree here. SMC took Noah out of this game. They kept pushing him off of the block. He gave it his all, I think. And what happened to Davies? Seems like he kind of fell flat as well. Maybe they were just playing so intense in the second half that he needed some breaks.

Davies got in a bit of foul trouble so had to play more reserved. Without outside shooting and no other substantial threats on the team Davies and Noah can only do so much. If the guards keep chucking up bricks and you're Davies or Noah, you're thinking twice about passing it back out.

Noah can't rebound worth a crap for a Power Forward, and doesn't want the ball when his team is down or late in a game. He isn't a leader.

All perception. Davies clearly thinks he's better than the rest as he's been forcing shots all season.



Noah is not a leader and plays horrible zone defense. Neither is Davies. We have no leader. Carlino may become one. It takes Abouo getting homered by the refs all game to show up. This season is pretty much done, so I am more worried about someone stepping up next season.

Wow, a lot of negativity on this thread. We have an entire month of basketball to play and improve. I still think our young guys get better over the next few weeks and peak just in time for the WCC tournament. A matchup/win against SMC in the tourney is not insurmountable. We can and will be playing better by then. I still like our chances as long as the guys keep playing hard and improving.

Finish 2nd in league or come 2nd in tourney to SMC and I think we are in.
