Obama's election-year shenanigans

So I kept thinking of Obama's contraceptive play. Dems pass a law that essentially forces all hospitals to offer contraceptives Including the moral-objecting Catholic hospitals -- this would then force them to either 1)shut their doors, 2) break the law, or 3) change their doctrine regarding contraceptives.

Enter predictable outrcy from the right. Firestorm. wait a day or two for the issue to get out there and then Obama steps to the front and says: "well, we can make some allowances for religious groups" (like the government was ever going to let all Catholic sponsored healthcare facilities vanish)...and this is the headline:

Got to give it to Politicians in election years. Nothing like a "reasonable" president who can set himself up as a diplomatic mediator who can work with both parties. They knew exactly what they were doing when this was passed. make republicans look awkward on one of their core issues, especially when religion is going to be a key factor in the 2012 race and then the President can come back and make concessions and be seen as a reasonable mediator. Especially on an issue that the supreme court would have inevitably struck down as a 2nd amendment violation anyways.

Anyone else catch the Political Character play?

The same thoughts crossed my mind. Why is forcing employers to provide contraceptives in the healthcare law in the first place? I think the answer to that question shows who Obama really is. A president who relies legislature to get HIS way.

Just so no one is surprised, but we will go after Iran in late Summer or early Fall, for all the wrong reasons.

I'm afraid you're right sno. If it happens, it will be another monumental blunder by our government.

No surprise here. How far did he move or compromise on this issue? Not an inch. He still steals rights from us and calls it giving rights. Didn't Isaiah talk about calling evil good and good evil?

How about the supreme (don't like using that word for someone like this) court judge, Ginsberg I think, who says the constitution is out dated. I think it was further stated that it needs to be redone or a whole new one written. Anyone who wants this judge to write a new one raise your hand and help build the communes.

Sorry about details, it's getting harder for me to listen to the news.

Obama makes a BIG CONCESSION, the Catholic Church doesn't have to provide what it finds reprehensible, but the insurance has to provide it for "FREE!!!" So, who really does end up paying for the stuff the RCC doesn't like under this "compromise?" Is it the insurance company who will solely burden the cost because of its magnanimity? Nope. It's the RCC who will still end up shouldering the cost...and who said that Obama wasn't fair and transparent? What do they know?

The President is going to play politics of course. Nothing unexpected. The remarkable thing is, Congress could make it all go away just by defunding that item in the bill or line-item voting against it. Just like they could stop a stupid potential attack on Iran, by defunding it. Just like they can stop pretty much anything the president does by defunding his initiatives. The President's domestic powers really aren't that expansive and can be thoroughly checked by Congress. People claim that they understand this and point to Congress' record low approval rate as evidence that Congress isn't doing their job...and then they go and re-elect 95% of the House every election. (Seriously, average of last 7 elections minus retirements is 95%)

So if Congress defunds that one item wouldn't the Catholic Church be back on the hook for the contraception?
