Credit to the Zags. They held nothing back. Unfortunately, BYU got hit with injuries at the worst time possible in the season. The Cougars have talent, but their youth really showed last night.

I am happy either way, but would rather see us in the NIT. Agree with CraigO that the NIT gives us many more opportunities to progress and develop, which we need far more than a slim chance at upsetting the NCAA. I would also like the chance to see our team play a few more times this year.

However, I voted that we would get in and deservedly so. We are one of the top 50-60 teams in the country - of course, it's not the best 64 that make it in anyway.

Yes, and they should.

We all know BYU has it's flaws. We probably know them more intricately than most the guys pitching in a vote.

BYU is one of the best 50 teams in the nation right now. They might be on the bottom half of that 50, depending on how they shoot, but a healthy Noah and productive Davies gets us there. The rest is just gravy.

BYU's poor performance in the tourney has to do with a couple things: Hurt Noah, hurt Rogers, and to some extent a hurt CColl. Noah didn't look good against the Zags. He didn't look even close to comfortable of offense or defense. Healthy Noah and we win that game.

You throw in Rogers for the season, and we win at least 3-4 more games this season. His shooting and perimeter defense would have added a lot. Rose realized that we would have a lack of shooting after Jimmer, Emery and Haws left. So he brings in Rogers. Unfortunately Rogers misses almost the entire season... He was supposed to be the main 3 guy.

All in all, I am very pleased with BYU this year. It isn't just any team that can replace two of the best players they have ever had with complete freshman, and still pull off 25 wins in a season. Good job boys. Here's hoping for one or two more this year!

Yes, but it took barely beating a sorry San Diego team to get 1 win in the tourney. I really think playing in this sorry conference makes us play down to our competition. (Not to say SM and GU are not better than us because they clearly are.) I just think that when you play against no name teams they will eventually get used to you and beat you, which makes you look really bad. On the upside, nobody cares if you beat SM or GU. Lose lose proposition and I think the players know it.

On the other end of the conference spectrum, take Va Tech for instance. They are the dregs of the conference but they are ultra-familiar with Duke and UNC. Occasionally and eventually they beat one of those teams because they play each other so often. It makes their season look great and is not a big hit to Duke's standing. Win win.

We need out of this conference in the worst way.

So, do you really think with our level of talent and maturity, we would have had a more successful season in a different conference? One that is more tournament worthy?

Yes in the sense that we play up and down to competition. This season was boring and I think the players felt the same way. Nobody wants to play these scrubby teams. When we play SD or SF in a non-con game we throttle them. But now we see them 3x per year--they will win eventually and it'll look terrible.

Lunardi has BYU as the #12 seed. Me thinks that we are in as he is usually quite accurate. We have 25 wins and a 50 RPI - that should work well for an at large bid among 68 teams.

After watching our tournament performance, I didn't think we deserved to get in, but after thinking about it, there are 68 teams in the tourney. Do I think we're one of the top 68 teams in the country? Definitely. I know that's not how selections work, but still, think of the 15 and 16 seeds you've seen in the past. I think we're better than most of those teams.

With that being said, I almost would rather be a 1 or 2 seed in the NIT and see us compete for that championship. I'd love another home game and I agree that advancing in the NIT would probably help our young guys more than being rocked in round 1.

Well I'm glad the selection committee isn't comprised of cougar corner members. I'll take the play-in game for the big dance over the NIT any day. This gives us at least a decent chance to win a tournament game three years in a row. ( BYU vs. Iona for play in game, 14 seed).

I don't think that any of us thought we would get a 14 seed. Makes sense though. BYU deserved a 12, and 12+2 = BYU's typically seeding screwjob.

That's exactly what my son said to me after he told me that we were a #14 seed. It's one thing to smack us with such a seeding, but sending us back east? Wow, that was low. There must be a real issues with people and BYU. We're the team many love to hate and sometimes it shows.

would ya'll like some cheese with that w(h)ine? This year we all have nothing to complain about when it comes to seeding. Remember that Utah state game?? ouch. Iona will not be a gimme.
