Carlino at point > Delgado at point

Based on what? Carlino loves to shoot the 3. Delgado has had a better assist-to-turnover rate post high school.

Carlino averages ONE MORE ASSIST PER GAME than Delgado, against BETTER COMPETITION.

Most of those turnovers don't cause themselves. I have about a 8 to 1 turnover ration in church ball. So you're saying I should start over both of them?

Sorry, but you're up in the night on this one...

Sounds to me like BYU missed out on a great recruit...perhaps Rose could find a 4 for us scouting the church ball ranks.

No, that's Utah's recruiting strategy.

Team B from Division A is better than Team M from Division N. Therefore no player on Team M can be better than any player from Team B.

Faulty logic.

We shall see soon enough how the two compare head-to-head. I'm not saying that Delgado is better than Carlino, or that he is more of a 1 than a 2. I'm saying that we don't know yet, and that there are now more possibilities at those positions.

There has been no logic up to this point, faulty or otherwise. It is ALL apples and oranges, until they get on the same court vs the same competition.

All I am saying, is that Sophomore Carlino is going to be heads and tails above anyone that goes against him at the one spot, including Delgado, whose ball handling and passing skills we aren't really even sure are on the D-1 level or not....

People often talk about kid's lower level competition as reasons why they should play and start above kids already in the system. This is hardly unique or new. Whether those stats will hold on playing at this level remains to be seen. I always believe that new kids need to play their way onto the court/field.

I know this was a long time ago, maybe some of the old timers around here can help me out, but BYU once had a QB who received similar praises showered on him before his sophomore season. I'll have to go back and see how it turned out though. It was decades ago.

It was Ty Detmer, this is how his Sophmore season turned out (according to Wikipedia)
Detmer became the full-time starter in 1989. He emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, passing for 4,560 yards and 32 touchdowns during the regular season. His passer rating of 175.6 led the NCAA, and he finished second to Houston's Andre Ware in total offense. He led BYU to a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship, the team's first since 1985. Detmer finished the season with a strong performance against Penn State in the 1989 Holiday Bowl, setting NCAA records for most passing yards (576) and most yards of total offense (594) in a single bowl game. He finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Again, freshman Carlino was probably the 3rd best PG in a league that sent 3 teams to the NCAA tournament - as a freshman.

Pangos, Delladova, Ireland, Viney.

I believe that Viney was a forward. However, Carlino was still clearly behind the other 3 who all return again in 2012.

I thought he might have been a 2/3, but couldn't remember.

Honestly, we're bragging that he scored more than PGs on teams with RPIs of 200. Not good enough. He needs to cut the turnovers and raise his shooting percentage, both DRASTICALLY.

He's not that far off if you extrapolate the numbers over 48 mins.

SMC - Dellavadova - Junior
45% FG, 36% 3pt, 85% FT, 3.5 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 3 TO's, .04 blocks, 0.9 steals, 16.6 points

Carlino - BYU - Freshman

41% FG, 35% 3pt, 75% FT, 4.1 erbounds, 6.0 assists, 3.5 TO's, .4 blocks, 1.8 steals, 16.8 points

LMU - Ireland - Sophomore

43% FG, 33% 3pt, 77% FT, 4.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 3.3 TO's, 0 blocks, 1.7 steals, 18.4 points

Gonzaga - Pangos - Freshman

43% FG, 40% 3pt, 85% FT, 3.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.3 TO's, .04 blocks, 1.4 steals, 16.8 points

SMC and Zaga both went dancing, it's not like they were bottom dwellers. Our freshman pg kept up with everyone in the league, and was flat out better than all but the teams BYU was behind, (besides Ireland, who was the best pg in the league)

Sorry, but "Carlino is terrible" isn't factual and doesn't hold up.

That he needs to improve, is No-Duh, and it will happen.

Who said he was? Besides every Gonzaga and SMC message board, that is.

Not you, and not me. Others did. People that only tuned in for one or two games during the season.
