Only going to matter if we finish it before he comes. See any timeframes?

Very awesome, nonetheless!

Maybe this is what happens when you win!

I have maintained that BYU can keep up money wise with Utah, even with Utah in the Pac 12. BYU has more donors, who donate a lot more to the AD (and school overall), than Utah could ever dream to have. This is another example of this.

Seems like a horribly inconvenient location. I guess anything can be considered "on-campus" if you just expand the campus to include it. "The World is Our Campus" must not be TIC.

Horribly inconvenient? It's maybe a 1/4 mile from the Marriott Center.

And about a mile from campus itself--the part of campus where students actually go to class, that is. In fact, the location technically won't be part of the campus until the facility is built. You know how students complain every year about parking and the administration reminds them they can park by LES? Yeah, it's convenient like that.
S

But it's not inconvenient for the players or coaching staff. Who cares about students who won't use the facility.

I loved parking by the LES. It was easier to park there and walk the 10 minutes to my classes in the BRMB (by the testing center) than to drive around hoping for a closer spot and waste 10 minutes searching for one.

Heaven forbid our athletes get subjected to walking an extra quarter of a mile...

About time bball gets its own practice facility.

Actually, if they build it in the parking lot east of LES, then it's not even 1/4 mile. It's essentially right across the street.

UNLV's football stadium is on the other side of town from campus, like 10 miles away. THAT is inconvenient.

You must have been a VERY fast walker.

1/4 mile from the Marriott Center? From what they wrote, sounds like it'll be right across the street from the Marriott Center parking lot. Plus, don't most of the athletes live in Helaman Halls? That's not far at all.

Not 1/4 mile. Try 1/8 mile. Plus, it's not like we're talking a one hour gym class and then back to other classes. I can't believe this is dominating this thread. This is huge people. It is almost as cool as getting an indoor football practice facility.

Twice as fast as Google-man

1/4 mile is pretty close, entrance-to-entrance

And I'm pretty sure only freshmen athletes live in Helaman.

Anyways, sorry if I overstated how inconvenient the facility location would be and hijacked what should be an exciting announcement. The comment of "horribly inconvenient" was made in the context of the announcement of an "on-campus" practice facility and my initial interpretation of what an "on-campus" facility would entail, and then reading through nearly the entire article before finding out that the location will only be "on-campus" once the campus is expanded to include the new location. So going from an announcement of an on-campus facility to an explanation that the location is not currently campus made it seem more inconvenient than it really is simply based upon my understanding of what consists of on-campus currently.

Carry on.

Ok, Usually did walk pretty fast because I didn't want to be late. But I knew it was faster - especially when running late - to go where I knew I could quickly & immediately find a spot to park than wander aimlessly up and down rows hoping and praying. And then still having to run/walk pretty fast to class.

I see a lot of houses in that area. Did BYU buy the houses and is going to knock some down?

I also have heard from multiple sources that BYU committed to Provo at one point that they weren't going to expand their currently very large footprint anymore into the community. This seems like an encroachment to me. I wonder if I misunderstood the promise or if it was given with a certain timeline.

or perhaps it's that funny hill just to the east of the stadium.

BYU already owns most of the houses in that area. If you look, you'll notice many of the houses have concrete vertical slabs indicating that they are some or such other house of BYU.

I noticed you also used a south entrance of the MC instead of a north entrance. I also dispute Google's walking pace of barely 2 mph.

Yes--I measured from the entrance you would use to enter the facility coming from campus for both locations. That is the best way I could figure to determine how much farther (i.e. how much more inconvenient) the walk would be.

That makes sense. For the record. I walked to Target today (1/2 miles) in 9 minutes, with my two boys (ages 6 & 5). Google is slow allocating nearly 15 minutes to go 1/2 mile.

It's just calibrated for the average walking speed for the location from which you are searching
