Apparently, word on the street—in the e locker room--has it that Harvey will NOT be returning, due to a recent squabble he had with Bronco at a team testimony meeting. During a moment of spiritual weakness Harvey made the following remark:

“How much reverence can I have for a Supreme Being who finds it necessary to include such phenomena as phlegm and tooth decay in His divine system of creation?"

Bronco naturally did not find the comment appropriate and replied by saying, ""The trouble with you is that you think you're too good for all the conventions of this team and university. You probably think you're too good for me too, just because I arrived at puberty late. Well, do you know what you are? You're a frustrated, unhappy, disillusioned, undisciplined, maladjusted young man!" Bronco's disposition seemed to mellow as he reeled off the uncomplimentary adjectives.

"Yes, sir," Harvey agreed carefully. "I guess you're right, and I would like to take this opportunity to let you know I will not be returning for my senior season."

Too bad for our program. If only Bronco could have taken a more diplomatic approach. :sulk: :sulk: :sulk:

Peter, The Rock!

Dang! :)

THIS is the insider info that keeps me coming back! ;)

But then Bronco offered to sign his balls and the crisis was MOSTLY averted.

I started laughing really loudly after reading this while my wife was talking to me and she wondered why I was laughing at her, that was random and totally awesome!

Good luck to Harvey, whatever he chooses to do. He's a fine young man.

I agree that he can't do much more next year to enhance his pro-potential than what he has already done up to this point. This is the beef I had with Trent Plaisted when he left early, that he wasn't fully ready and he wouldn't be desirable enough to teams/coaches.

My main concerns for Unga's professional football viability:

Injuries (both current and potential in the future)

Lack of speed

I don't see him going high in the draft or starting in the NFL afterwards. But he's a tough kid with a big frame and deceptive quickness, to go along with excellent field vision and good hands. Not sure where to grade his blocking. I do see him sticking to a team and making a good deal of money. He's earned it and he deserves it.

So why the ire for Collie? Couldn't you have said the exact same thing about him and just swapped the name (except for maybe the "big frame" part)? And in hindsight, he is actually starting in the NFL... on one of the best teams, being thrown to by the best QB in NFL history.

Collie isn't a douche just because he left BYU early. I thought of him as a douche long before that, a selfish "Me-First" type of guy that hurts team moral and is always focused on his personal stats and how great he is. His bailing on the Cougars after helping them two two blow-out losses just sealed my opinion of him, and I'm sticking to it.

According to Greg Wrubell, Unga only needs 70 yards to tie the great Curtis Brown for all-time rushing.

No doubt he gets that in the first half against UNM.

Maybe that's your opinion of him (and I'm not necessarily saying your wrong as I didn't know him personally) but it always seemed like you were hating on him because he left early and abandoned his team. If you really disliked him so much and thought he was such a cancer, it would seem you would have been happy he left early but I don't remember you ever expressing those sentiments. And there have been plenty of threads that talked about how BYU would be better of without Collie even though he was such a talented player.

I didn't like Collie's personality, but I thought the team was better with him playing.

I know that I feel differently than many BYU fans here, and I'm okay with my opinion being unpopular on this one. It's just an opinion though, and as the saying goes "opinions can't be wrong".

I can't agree with that saying. I see wrong oppinions all the time, but they're mostly just the opinions of stupid people. ;) :P (i.e. opinions that differ from my own  )

Fair enough.

From what I have seen of Unga I would be very, very surprised to see him drafted in the first two rounds. He just doesn't have breakaway speed.

I think BYU was better with Collie on the field, and I think Collie made the right decision. You go to college to get a career. He just happened to play football. If some genius in the chemistry department got a job that paid big $$$ before finishing the degree, I do not think anyone in the Chem Dept would call the kid selfish and me first for leaving, or abandoning the Chem Dept. They would not say his experiments were all about himself. People want unfettered loyalty in instances where it is no warranted. The kids played football, made BYU better and brought great recognition to the university for his accomplishments. And every time he plays for the Colts, BYU gets mentioned. From where I sit, he did it right. And if Harvey leaves and gets a nice pay day, all credit to him as well. Football is a means to an end. As fans we think it is THE End, when it is not for all players.
