What the? If I were Bronco, and I read this ridiculous chatter, I might think BYU fans were fickle and ungrateful. Oh wait, we are. 8)

Put it this way, imagine your wives chatting about the possibility of being with some other dude. You know, because it would be so exciting and for what they might offer her "program". Yeah, you cheaters!!!

Why is it ridiculous?

And what makes you think Bronco is completely satisfied with his current staff?

It is BYU, and Bronco did not get to pick his staff. I guarantee that they will not replace anyone, unless they leave on their own. BYU does not fire coaches. I can think of one assistant ever let go at BYU and it was Schmidt to hire Bronco. Oh wait sorry--he retired....Otherwise, it just does not happen.

Leach would be great!! We could let him be Bronco's spokesman -- would never have to decipher Bronco speech again:

Sounds like the two ends of your argument--that Bronco didn't get to pick his staff vs. that's why he wouldn't let anyone go--militate against each other.

That Bronco didn't get to choose certain pieces of his staff is exactly why he would be interested in finding diplomatic ways of replacing them.

Reid will not be hired at BYU. He is not a good fit, and he certainly would not have the standards and discipline that Bronco has; plus, I'm not convinced has the least interest in coaching at BYU. You have to like his offenses, but how many Big-12 titles has he won? None?

We need to all remember that this is BYU, not Florida, or TT, or USC, it's BYU. And BYU has standards that no other school in America has, which poses certain challenges to recruiting, and to recruiting coaches. BYU will never pay $4 million for a football coach, or anything close to that. And standards and personal character will always be more important at BYU than winning football games. Bronco is the perfect coach for right now.

Robbie Bosco?

IIRC Crowton removed much of Bosco's responsibility (over-riding play calls, scheme development, etc.) but let him retain much of the accountability (especially when things went poorly). This was a Crowton specialty (If things went well, he did it; if they went poorly, it was on someone else).

Bosco heard the rumblings, saw the writing, and understood the impact on his family of moving to another coaching position at another school. It was unlikely he'd find a place to spend another 13-14 years (like he had at BYU) if the coaching staff was overhauled. My understanding is that he elected to take an admin/fundraising job on the Athletic Dept so he could spare his family a move and continue to work at BYU where he'll vest a nice retirement after 20 years of service.

I may be mistaken, or I may be drinking the blue Kool Aid, but this represents my understanding of the situation.

I think you're thinking Leach, who is a drinker, yes. But he did win a Big XII South co-title!

My question is how good of recruiters are they. Great players do not always equal good coaches in college. I say something on Cougarboard that said Reid thought about coming here. Maybe only rumor. I could see him coming when he is ready to retire from the NFL. I would love to see Holmgren as an OC. Maybe he could keep some of the star recruits from Pete Carrol at USC. The other guys could come on and reassign the current coaches to another position or administration.

My point was, BYU does not fire coaches without good cause. Not now. Crowton may have gotten away with forcing Bosco out, but that is not happening now, absent coach issues. Crowton also got to force Schmidt into retirement. Crowton also had to ask his assistant with drug and alcohol issues to walk(Borich--due to brain trauma issues). What is the commonality here? And how did that tenure go again? The staff we have now are good citizens, so they are here as long as they want to be. They are good coaches as well. This team is better than last year, and they have improved. Bronco will not fire any of them because our community values loyalty and tenure. I do not think Holmoe would let him fire anyone anyway. Certainly the trustees would not, absent good cause.
