Damarcus Harrison transferring to Clemson

B. Gurney reporting that Coach Rose has granted him a release from his schollie. He flashed real potential in some games and then would disappear in others. Never on par with Carlino but brought speed/quickness on defense - liked his games vs Baylor and Iona.

Damn shame.

Hope it works out for him though.

Demarcus Harrison is a casualty of the way scholorships work in Dave Rose's system of managing the scholorships. He committed to leave on his mission this fall, that was delayed, Rose had already given his scholorship away and didn't have one for him. It is too bad but these coaches have to manage their scholorships the best way that they can and with the basketball team, it doesn't leave much wiggle room. I am really sad by this. I loved the kids potential and thought he would end up being a star eventually. He did leave open the possibility of coming back to BYU after his mission though.

would love to see him back. Best of luck wherever you end up Demarcus.

Depending on if and when he goes on his mission -

If he goes on his mission now - then why bother to transfer to Clemson if he would want to come back - but rules may allow him to change his mind without sitting out a year

If he burns a year sitting out - then goes, not sure of the rule these days, but maybe he can come back having never played at Clemson - and not have to sit a 2nd year.

If he burns a year sitting out and then plays his soph year at Clemson before going - would he really be willing to sit his junior year out to play 1 year at BYU as a senior?

In other words, he is most likely gone for good.

Too bad and best of luck to him.
