Air Force has the #1 pass defense in the nation, and a Top 4 rushing offense. I don't think Tulane had either of those things...

This obviously isn't the Tulane game and I don't expect near the same result. But, like I've said, Mars, we'll see come Saturday, and I'll be very choked up if I'm wrong, honestly, there could be tears...

The opposite has seemed to work better for me this year. Consider the negative, so the negative won't hurt you, but the positive may surprise you. I felt great thinking Oklahoma would kill us and being proven wrong. The two games I felt really good about this year were Florida State and New Mexico...

Air Force having the #1 pass defense is somewhat misleading. Because they run the ball so much and so effectively, they limit the number of possessions and plays run by the other team. A team that only gives up 55-60 plays will more than likely have better total yards allowed stats than a team that faces 70-75 plays a game.

True, but they are still the #10 pass efficiency defense, which isn't affected by ten less snaps per game. The fewer snaps argument works against their rushing defense though--ranked #56 in the country. Let's hope Harvey is healthy.

And all the O-line!

#10 in passer rating defense is very impressive. Much more so than #1 in passing defense, because, like you said, it's not skewed by fewer attempts. Still I'm not worried. We've ran successfully against AF each year under Bronco and have held them well under their average.

If past history is any indication, BYU is Air Force's kryptonite. We're big strong and have a defense capable of stopping their running game.

AF doesn't have a steller pass rush and we have a huge o-line (compared to their defense) if they give Max time to throw (which I expect) then Dennis Pitta will have a career day and Harvey and JJ will wreck Air Force once their linebackers have to start helping with coverage.

AF has little room to trash talk us, we've had their number for quite some time... and last time I checked we're playing in Provo...

Provo hasn't exactly been the win-haven it has been in past years.

That said, I like Bronco's consistency against AFA. I think we'll get a good dose of Unga, Tonga, DiLuigi, and Kariya from the backfield on Saturday. I hope to see some outstanding play by Pitta as well. I don't care if you're the #1 pass defense in the nation, that guy is a stud!

That last part got a laugh out of me. That's an awesome movie that that line is from. :)

As far as Air Force goes, it all depends on which team shows up. If we see the BYU that dismantled UNLV, Wyoming, Tulane, and defeated OU, then BYU will win this going away. If we see the team that got blasted by FSU, TCU, and almost lost to SDSU and NM, then BYU will be in trouble on Saturday. Personally, I believe that we'll see the BYU team that we saw two weeks ago.

Here's how it goes down.

BYU finally shows up ready to defend LES. AFA plays well but they'll have another loss at the end of the day. Running backs have a great day. Hall protects the ball enough to get the W. The turf, after a much needed break, holds up relatively well.

I'm glad somebody recognized it, I was really starting to feel like a loner. Have you watched the series as well, or just the film?

My question is this...

It's hard for a running team to win a game where they get down multiple scores because running takes more time off of the clock, thus forcing them to pass more to save time (their offensive weakness, since it's not what they prefer to do). So to beat a good rushing team, wouldn't you want to throw as much as possible against them to get them down early and make them have to abandon their offense's strength to keep in the game?

Maybe that's a crazy question, but the more scoring in the game and the quicker the drives (which usually means PASSING), the better chance you have to get ahead by more than one TD over the course of an entire game, thus the better chance to force the opponent to work against their base offense, thus the better chance to keep or increase your lead. No?

I know, right? We should just get a touchdown on the first play of every drive and it will be hard for them to keep up! ;) It makes sense to throw the ball if you can do so in a safe manner. When playing a team like AFA, every possession is so important because you get so few and they hardly ever turn the ball over because all they do is run. So if you can be confident enough in you pass game to not have turnovers, you should definitely go over the top.

You can't see the movie without watching the series. One of my favorite shows ever.

This is a good question. I would think that the best offense against a team that focus' on the run is an efficient one, no matter what it is. If BYU can efficiently drive the field, and score touchdowns, then stop AF and do it again, that is just as effective and doesn't extend the game due to incomplete passes.

When BYU is decent, they do not lose to AFA. Period. BYU is ranked right on at #22, and AFA lost to Utah, who sorta sucks this year. We are better than last year and hosed them at their place. We do so again Saturday, with ease. 31-16.

Dispite my distaste for the Utes, I don't think they suck this year. I think they're decent; probably just like us. Utah's only losses are to two very good teams, though nobody knew how good Oregon was going to be at the time. BYU has lost to one very good team and another team that only knows how to play football sometimes (and will tank since losing Ponder).

I'm no Ute apologist. I just think when we meet them we'll be pretty evenly matched overall. BYU has the edge on offense, though. Senior QB and all.
