Well, here in Florida, I don't hear very much about BYU basketball, but I did see where Jabari visited BYU and how the theme for the game that night was "Chicago To Provo" and a billion t-shirts with that slogan.

I ain't getting my hopes up...well, maybe a little, but does anybody know anything about our chances of landing Jabari other than "he's too good to go to BYU" or something without any sound reasoning with a few facts. Base your decisions on sound principles and not sheer emotions. People, we ain't liberals on this board, well other than Schmoe?

Whoa, whoa!! There's joking around, and then there's straight up libel. You can accuse me of being fat, ugly, stupid, bald, short, crazy, hairy like a buffalo, weak as Justin Beiber, the craigslist murderer, secretly two midgets in a trench coat, attracted to Lady Gaga, or that my favorite movie is The Human Centipede. But a liberal? C'mon now, the line has to be drawn somewhere.

We're in the top three. So, assuming all things are equal, we have a 33% chance. Not too shabby.

Okay, I'll apologize for using the "l" word and your name in the same sentence. I know that somethings are just sooooo wrong, that forgiveness is hard to find and trust has to be reearnt, but only after years of earning it back. What penitence must I do? :~(

Honestly Schmoe, you made my day with that. I should have been in bed a half hour ago and wasn't expecting such a quick response from you.

Probably a lot of pluses for us and the minus of how good the supporting cast would be next year. If Emery and a couple of our signees agreed to play one year before serving their mission, that would negate the minus.

Pluses include Rose, LDS background, KBYUtv, friends and family at the Y, NCAA stopping his fireside.

The fireside incident, all I heard was the family was afraid that if he spoke at a fireside, it would be an NCAA recruiting violation. How would it be a violation?

My apologies, I think we're still top 5 - 20% chance.

He did one in Oakland after visiting Stanford. In SLC it would have given an "unfair recruiting advantage" to the Y. While other schools throw parties and girls at their recruits.

What about the "Parker Style" video? Could that be considered a violation since they mentioned him by name?

How awesome would that be that he signs w/ BYU but goes straight on a mission and then can't attend BYU because some dumb fan made some dumb video parodying some dumb song?!

I think it is okay as long as the person is not a booster or connected to the school. I don't know all of the rules. It is kind of like the Jewish/Mosaic law, lots of rules and interpetations.

I imagine a student could be considered connected to the school. Much of it looked like it was shot on campus as well.

From ncaa.org:
Recruiting rules seek, as much as possible, to control intrusions into the lives of student-athletes.

The NCAA defines recruiting as “any solicitation of prospective student-athletes or their parents by an institutional staff member or by a representative of the institution’s athletics interests for the purpose of securing a prospective student-athlete’s enrollment and ultimate participation in the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program.”

From most of what I've read, recent violations had more to do with people contacting athletes via facebook, twitter, texts or phone calls, or creating an online group asking them to come to their school (with no direct contact).

It seems like in most cases, when a school thinks a fan is out of line, they have them cease and desist whatever they're doing and then the NCAA lets it go. So I think a worst case scenario in this case would be the guy having to take down the YouTube video.

I just saw the Jabari video, Jabari Parker Style (Gangnam Style Remix), and absolutely loved it. It's funny. I love the attitude of BYU students. I thought the students were hilarious when I went there in the late 70's, but we never had access to the technology the students have now.

For a cut rate, student video, I actually liked it. :-) it didn't look as bush league as I thought it would.

The NCAA cant police every student body on the planet. If it is a violation, it would defy logic. I get the fireside thing. We just present "our" girls with a different presentation and intent. ;-)

Isn't Gangnam Style a song making fun of people who aspire to be somethig that they're not? Isn't there a danger of this being a very ironic video? I'm probably putting too much thought into this... :~(

I thought that the video was incredibly bad, but that the song/music was decently written and performed.
