HA HA. never seen someone so happy to hit a wide open three in the first half of a game!

That was great. Nice shot Carlino, may you hit every remaining three point shot you take this year (BYU needs it!).

AND winder looks like he's fresh back from a mission.

Good shot by Carlino. Hope that helps his confidence.

I think people forget Carilino still hasn't played a full season of college hoops. He'll get there.

He did look much better, for which I'm very glad. I hope he continues to improve.

Not sure the monkey is off his back. Maybe more like relief that he hasn't fallen off a cliff. I hope he gets better. He loves the game and he loves to attack. Both great qualities. However, he reminds me of another player at BYU who plays with near reckless abandon, so he seems like a high risk, high reward (some of the time) player. It's his nature. I'm glad Rose found a seat for him on the bench and hopefully he can ratchet back the high risk behaviors. Bc they came at bad times last year. But I love his finesse. We will need his spark this year. Keep on, Carlino!

Carlino is a sophomore that still hasn't played a full season. Think about that for a second. As a freshman, he played the point at BYU with success. To continue the football comparison that would be like a freshman playing QB. You'd give him a year or two to get it together.

To compare Carlino to Riley is very unfair. Carlino is still learning and his stats indicate such. Last year he finished with 115 assists and 75 turnovers. Unless my numbers are off, this season he's at 34 assists and 11 turnovers. He's already improved - more assists and fewer turnovers.

Great point. Great stat. It's what happens when a coach is in control and sits a player who turns the ball over.

He also got stronger, which helps him both defend and attack the basket better. But maybe most importantly, he is also shooting much worse across the board. 2-of-18 from three, right?

One thing Carlino did was not keep shooting. Sometimes taking fewer shots is a good thing.

Yes, his shooting is horrible thus far this season while Cusick's is slightly improved. Carlino still leads the team in assists and as mentioned so far assist to turnover ratio is respectable.

Shooting less, particularly from the 3, is more for Carlino.

I wonder, though, what we'll see from Cusick as he gets more min and takes more shots. For example, he shot 33% from the field last night and was 2 for 5 from the 3 point line. He took 5 three point shots and attempted one layup. Not a stellar nigh of shooting.

I didn't really see Cusick's job as being a real shooter in the game either. He was distributing the ball well, and took the wide open shots when given the opportunity. He was surprisingly active defensively - a lot of deflected balls and a lot of doubling down in the post. He really jammed things up and made it difficult for Montana to get anything going.

Bottom line. BYU has 2 guys that can play the point and do it fairly well. Both are new to starters minutes and like Gunk has pointed out, Carlino is going to get a lot better.

Hopefully.

That's why I want him coming off the bench, gets him experience and hungry to start.
