What changes will you make?

The world is changing around us at a rapid pace. What changes are you making and will make in order to adapt?

We are about to lose our: nuclear defense superiority; deity-like status as the keeper of the international currency; already downgraded credit rating will be downgraded again.

Add to this more bad economic news. California will announce that it will default on its debt if it does not get a bailout, municipalities will announce that they cannot provide the same level of service in law enforcement, etc.

We will also lose our political influence around the world as Iran becomes the center of power in the Middle East.

This list could go on and on but the point is that these scenarios are no longer mere speculation. They are happening right now.

These will not be minor adjustments. They are major changes economically, politically, militarily, and emotionally and will effect us all.

I have been thinking about how I and others will adapt. What will you do differently?

Thick butcher cut, and either hickory or applewood smoked. It's "God's food." 8)

I forgot who I was talking to.

I should have asked who is going to raise pigs when bacon becomes scarce. Those pig farms smell really bad so I don't think pigs are in my plan unless it is a boar hunt.

I just got back from a 4 day wild pig (Javelina) hunt in Arizona. They do stink. Kinda like skunk.

The short answer is to do what the bretheren have been telling us to do all along.

This year's tax return is going to the year supply of long term storage food and a three month supply of food we eat normally. I have been feeling for some time that I need to do it. I feel more urgency this year. My chiropractor even talked to me today about how he was getting food storage together--here in Alabama. I guess similar to the Spirit of Elijah, the Holy Ghost is warning anyone who will listen that the time is now to be prepared. I am not forcasting an apocalypse. But how grateful would many people have been during the great depression if they only had a year supply.

Those are the immediate changes. Long term (over the next 9 years), I want to be completely out of debt (house, student loans, and car) and establish a year supply of money. The latter will take some doing. The mission president here explained that the church has no debt and keeps enough money in savings to pay for all obligations for one year. It seems like wise counsel.

Paying off the house won't be too difficult because rather than upgrade when my salary went up with promotions, we decided to make do with a smaller house and refinance to pay it off quicker. My 2000 Sq. Ft. house would have been considered a mansion in old Nauvoo, even if it is a starter home by many standards today. It is all just a matter of perspective. My wife and I decided we like financial security over a bigger house or nicer cars. Besides, stuff doesn't make you happy, its just give you more stuff to have to take care of--a good lesson taught by my Econ professor at BYU.

I don't know about your plans, Cougarfan. It seems so much easier to just quit work, file for welfare (and if you don't qualify you can surely claim disability for something!), let Obama take care of you. then you can sit around all day, smell flowers, hold hands and sing Kumbaya, and gripe about all the rich people!

If that doesn't work out you could get a minimum wage job. Obama wants to raise it to $9/hour. Imagine sitting around picking fly feces out of pepper and making $9/hour.

Doesn't sound fun. But I agree that raising minimum wage doesn't help.

Cougarfan, I'm not worried about debt, With minimum wage increases, and inflation of the US dollar, I'll be able to pay off my loans in no time. :D

I'm guessing your Econ professor doesn't ride motorcycles  They're a labor of love...like children.

Other than that, yes, I agree

Right now, I'm just staying in school. All of the wonderful biology, chemistry, physics and business classes I've taken have about zero value in the workforce until I finish graduate school
