If football was like basketball, there would be a tournament that takes the Top 24-or-so teams at the end of each season. And like Rose, Bronco's teams would make that more often than not, and win a game some of the time too. And then we'd all feel a lot better about him.

Bottom line, Bronco seems to underachieve and never quite live up to expectations or talent AND has been completely dominated by our in state rival. Add his public distaste and insulting of fans and insistence on repeating mistakes and fans are not going to be too thrilled. And yes the last three years have been down years, regardless of what the final record states. We have not had one very good win in the last three arguably 4 years. Even with teams full of NFL players at the primary positions he still found ways to lose winnable games and fall short of the BCS.

Roses teams seem to play to expectations or slightly above. His teams have also been dealt some unpredictable blows (suspension of Davies, lose of two starters this year). With Davies, we were a #1 seed and likely would have won at least one more game in the tourny. With Collinsworth and Rogers we would likely have won 3-5 more games this year and easily be in the tourny. But with our current roster, I didn't expect much more from this team. But it is easy to forgive as we have 2 amazing classes shaping up for 2013 and 2014. Rose also enjoys the fans most of the time and seems much more humble and personable. Bronco just looks like a grumpy stubborn dork who doesn't know he should dress like a head coach and not like a gym teacher on game day.

If Rse has another two seasons like this one, especially with talent, there will be more talk. But Bronco has done nothing but under-perform with EVERY team he has fielded.

I guess that depends on whose expectations we're talking about. Many people thought that Jimmer's senior season should have made it further, and most of us expected BYU to easily achieve more than 20 regular season wins this season.

Really the root of the problem is the difference in our rival in each sport. If Utah basketball had been up like Utah football has been, and Utah football had been down the way Utah basketball has been, the script would be flipped and we'd be talking about how there's a double-standard for football because BYU is a football school, etc. It's really that simple.
C

I don't agree. In fact Utah football has been down the last two years, but still managed to beat BYU--four years in a row. Or is it three? It's been so long and frustrating I want to bury my head in the west desert. Or at least a lot of good desserts to medicate myself.

So, yes, the Utah rivalry doesn't help, but like I have said, Bronco is losing the PR battle and its not really clear that he cares and acts helpless to do anything about it.

And as for Jimmer's Sr season, once we lost our post scorer and inasmuch as Noah had already been playing too many minutes before Davies dismissal, I don't agree. Educated fans also would understand this.

8 - 5 two years ago 54-10 loss

5 - 7 last year (didn't even go to a bowl game) 24-21 loss

*When* will they ever be down? Lol.

If Davies doesn't get suspended we go to the final 4 that year. Easy.

There really are some Bronco homers on here who seem to match the description of Bronco's class of "uneducated fans". I thought Riley must have been in bed with Bronco to get so many chances. I am know startig to think that Riley wasn't the only one joining Bronco in bed with the complex many posters have on here.

That being said, I have hope that Bronco can change and turn into the coach that is the difference maker between slightly above average to elite. Last year, an elite coach would have resulted in the difference of 2 to 4 wins and going from a below average year to an excellent year.

And if Utah's team wasn't considered down the past 2 years, what the hell will it take? We got blown out at home by a horrible Utah team and got beat this year by a horrible Utah team. Utah has become our daddy and that SUCKS! That is on Bronco!

I agree. Utah has been down the last two years.

I still think the biggest difference is that more people care, and at a higher level, about football than basketball.

Jimmer's ride was nice. But football is the BYU fans' passion. It's what matters most. Basketball is a nice filler between the bowl game spring ball.

Yes, Utah football was down the last two years, and Rose has lost to Utah when BYU was a better team. It goes both ways. Nice of Jacksonhole to skip all of the terrible basketball we've been playing and then come back on to bash football and Bronco again.

Schmoe, You are a tool. You Bronco homers started this whole conversation. This is not a great year for BYU basketball. It is however the first "bad" year in a long time, it really is about the year I expected with Rogers and CC going down, and we still beat the U and there is still some time left in the season including a big game tonight. With the conference tournament still to go it is hard to judge this season. But it is one season in Rose's tenure that hasn't been very good and our recruiting classes give us much hope for much improved seasons.

And when was the last time BYU lost to U in basketball, especially when the Y had a better team. 5 years ago?

Bronco's best teams barely beat Utahs worst teams and consitenetly get outplayed and outocoached every year. There is no comparison to how the basketball and football teams perform and rise up against the U.

False. Bronco is 3-5 against Utah. His three wins came against Utah teams that were 10-3, 9-4 and 9-5. His losses came against Utah teams that were 5-7, 7-5, 10-3,13-0 and 7-5.

I'm tool because you've been bagging on football and saying how great a basketball program we have, but then disappear once basketball starts to suck and barely makes it to 20 wins? Okay, then you're a coward and a fairweather fan and BYU has no need of fans like you. Bronco and Rose have both turned around bad situations, have both done great things, and have both had mediocre runs and seasons, falling short of expectations, as well. If I'm a tool because I point that out, then so be it, but the only time I see you around here is to bash on football and Bronco, so if I'm a tool, then that makes you a troll, right?

Can't we all take an imaginary bubble bath with our imaginary wives or Teo's imaginary girlfriend or Cornhole and all just get along.

I have stated my thoughts on the basketball double standard in the past.

DITTO.

Yes. You are a tool. Didn't respond to one of the actual statements of fact I made. Just throwing out the wussy big man Internet talk.

I think Rose is doing a better job than Bronco. I don't like Bronco as a head coach. Think he does an ok job but think he could have done so much better. Can I have that opinion or is that against your rules schmoe.

I apologize for not being around as much the last few months. Some of us have real lives away from cc and my busy season for work started at the new year. The imaginary bubble baths aren't so bad either. Would love to hear about your alone time with bronco.

Ill admit this season basketball not great. But about as expected. Bronco underperformed to my expectations. Hope that is ok to feel that way without upsetting too mny bronco homers.

Again, just to be clear, the basketball team is having its worst year in years and they are not tourny worthy. But I still like roae and think he is perfect for the job.

I always love this excuse when I see it.

Sorry I haven't been around when my opinion that the team stunk was being disproven on a regular basis, but I've been just so busy with my real life.

Say what you want but the road win against Weber was a good win. Putting up nearly 100 on an ACC team is a good effort. Destroying any conference opponent by 40 points is a job well done. Finishing a road game on a 24-7 run is pretty good.

But now that the team is really sucking again, my schedule freed up just in time to start getting on the board again.

Just a heads up, I'll be around until football starts up too. But if they start the season well, my schedule is probably going to get busy again.

Darn, I'm sorry my job allows me sufficient time off to discuss the teams that I'm an actual fan of with others who closely follow them and have knowledge of them.

I didn't respond to your claims because Spiff already did, and I'd hate to be redundant (like calling someone a silly name over and over and over on the internet), but that's your prerogative. I don't know who roae is, but I think Rose is perfect for the job ;) all we're pointing out is that Bronco has had a similar journey and is treated very differently because BYU is a football school and therefore there's a double standard. It's fine (and quite obvious) that you don't like Bronco, but to not see what's staring you in the face and admitting that there's a double-standard is kinda silly (not to mention, aren't you getting mad at me for my opinion about the double-standard, hypocritical much?).

I'm sorry you don't like the coach who turned our program around, got us ranked several times, and got us recognized on the national stage year in and year out because of what he's doing. Oh wait, you do like Coach Rose...

No. I assure you that real lives away from Internet chat rooms have in fact been proven to exist. I know it is hard to believe. But trust me they do exist and I hear they have some amazing fun bubble baths too.

I felt compelled to respond to a post bashing on rose and claiming he was a lesser coach than bronco. I completely disagree and so do most on here. But the loud minority, who happen to be on cc all the freaking time, like to put down everyone who feels differently then them.

I am in real estate in Utah. My slow time is in the fall. I am glad it correlates with football season and fall fishing. Have been working 70 hrs /week all of February and barely get to watch games. Thankfully in Vegas for remax conevention and will have time to sneak in gonzaga game tonight.

I hope both sports do well. Don't prefer one over the other. Just think bronco is falling way short of potential. Not sure we can do better than him but I reserve the right to disagree with how he runs the program on occasion. Or is that against the rules? Anyone have a copy of the cc bylaws?!

But there isn't a double standard. If you would actually read the reasoning so many of us have spelled out for you, you would see that. Bronco hasn't won one meaningful game in 4 years. He underperformed consistently against the u. His best years were with crowton recruits. He hasn't shown an ability to maintain a winning program or to develop talent (aside from ziggy who sounds like a natural freak). Bronco is a great dc. He is not a good head coach.

Rose isn't perfect but he has done everything above better than bronco and has won some great games. He also has put together some top recruiting classes for 2013 and 2014.

Don't have a watch. Just use my phone. Was actually about 70 degrees. Was at breath pool at hard rock hotel. Closed at 4pm. Will take picture to post tomorrow if you'd like. Last day of remax conference in Vegas. Google it. Wish it was warmer though. Tomorrow will be. But thanks for spending time on the weather for me.
