I hope this doesn't come off as a shameless tactic to save a few bucks. But it probably is. Hear me out. I know there are attorneys and the like who post here often - and my son has a problem. A girl he spent the night with got pregnant and had a baby. She moved far away shortly after getting pregnant. My son knows that it is between him and one other guy as to who the Daddy is. The girl refuses to communicate with my son at all. Everything he knows he found out on facebook. He knows the child has been in the hospital many times in its 6 month life. He knows he is a drug baby. The Mom is and always has been strung out on drugs. The other possible Dad is in prison.

My son wants to do the right thing if the child is his. But she is not being helpful and he doesn't have the $400 for the DNA test. And even I'd he did, he doesn't know if or how to approach this thing in a court way out in Texas.

We don't want a ton of free advice, but if anyone can give us a sense of direction, we would appreciate it. It could be anything from "Forget about it. Until she wants to know who the Daddy is, let it rest" to "You'd better suck it up and find out immediately."

Not an attorney... so take it with a grain of salt.. he can go to court and get the judge to order her to have the paternity test... he would still have to pay for it.... and you may want to check the cost... i thought it was closer to $1000.... could be wrong...

Free legal advice is worth about what you paid for it too often. I'd talk to a domestic relations lawyer and get advice on options. State laws vary and you need a lawyer who knows the law where this happened. It will cost but it will be worth knowing what options there are.

If the child is his, does he want to get custody and take it from drug-mom?

If not, let it be.
