BYU was running at the start of the season -yet Carlino sucked. It simply isn't that simple.

No they didn't. What game did they run in that they lost? Hmmmmmmmm? Name me a game that they scored over 12 points in fast break points that they lost.

Simply, you are out of your league here. I have seen every game this year and last, and you ... well... haven't. Simply, shut up before you get smacked up. BYU stopped running in the middle of last year to feed Hartsock in the post, who couldn't run. It was the right move last year, but it killed us this year to not go back to it.

Look at fast break points, genius. You won't find them in any of our losses, or any time that Cusick is playing point guard. Maybe do a little research before you make stupid statements. You might have been to busy watching the Yewts take 10th in Pac 12 basketball to watch some of our games. Ute fan.

Yes Bitter - I remember you asking if I watched the games when I posted the 20 REGULAR SEASON win poll and you thought that was a ridiculous question and predicted they would flirt with 30. Watching every game and understanding what is going on are two different things. The team ran more when Haws was racking up 20 point consecutive games to start the season, but Carlino was sucking. Running means more than just fast break points. It means getting down court fast with an early outlet pass and immediately attacking the basket.

Carlino used to be much too impressed with his dribble.

I said if Rose could figure out a rotation we would easily have 25 and we *might* FLIRT with 30. He never did, until the NIT. I knew the rotation all along.

Haws has been racking up 20 point games all season, ute fan. That is what a 20.9 average means. It means that he scores more than 20 points often. When you are "getting down court fast with an early outlet pass and immediately attacking the basket" to use your words, and score THEY CALL THAT A FAST BREAK POINT.

But you wouldn't know about fast break points, since the team that you watch doesn't have fast break points. They just run the clock down to 3 seconds and give the ball to Loveridge and hope he scores. Ute fan.

No one could have predicted Rose falling in love with Cusick and giving him starters minutes this year, leading to some of the worst defense we have seen, and an offense that does nothing.

Here, I did some homework for you: (since you are too busy looking up the results of the Ute pro day)

Florida State - Loss - 0 fast break points

Baylor - Loss - 0 fast break points

Saint Mary's - Loss - 8 fast break points

San Diego - Loss - 8 fast break points

San Francisco - Loss - 0 fast break points

Gonzaga - Loss - 2 fast break points

San Diego (WCC tournament game) - Loss - 2 fast break points

NIT against Washington - WIN - 12 fast break points

Mercer - WIN - insufficient stats - more than 12 though for sure

SMU - WIN - insufficient stats - more than 12 though for sure

Reading Comprehension Bitter. I said started the season running. And running was working most of the time, but Carlino sucked. Look it up.

Carlino's shooting sucked at the beginning of the year. His assist to turnover ratio didn't.

In fact, it was better at the beginning of the year than it was last season and it was better at the beginningof the season than it was towards the end of WCC play when we got stuck in a lame half-court set.

The biggest mistake was putting in Cusick instead of Calvert. Cusick has no concept of how to push the ball up the court. Cusick is a steady hand, which was great when we had Hartsock and Davies to feed in the post. We didn't have that two-headed monster this season.

Yep. Word for word. Except Cusick isn't even a steady hand. He is a hand that gets rid of the ball as fast as he possibly can so that he can go stand in the corner.

Carlino didn't get any memo from Rose. Carlino hasn't changed, the way we have played has. He is playing the same basketball he was earlier on in the year, only now he isn't the only one moving around and taking shots on the offensive side of the ball. Rose is the one that got the memo, and decided to stop playing players that can't play defense and/or push the ball upcourt. That is the only thing that has changed. I wouldn't expect you to understand basketball though, bib. As a ute fan the last time they were relevant was with Bogut, and that was a decade ago.

Carlino has certainly improved. You'd have to be a real basketball novice to not see that. Part of the reason his assist to turnover ratio was so good at the start of the year was because his shooting percentage was so poor. He was simply turning the ball over on terrible shots.

I think all BYU fans are glad that Carlino is finally playing the way he showed glimpses of in the past, and hope he continues it.

And when Carlino was erratic, Rose used Cusick as the Anti-Carlino. It was an ineffective action-reaction, or point-counterpoint (pun intended).

Thanks for the Ute report. Other than U vs Y I haven't watched a Ute Game all year. Same as usual. Sounds like you are familiar with them, though. Keep watching the Ute games and keep me posted.

And here you are trying to rewrite the BS you spout. There was no if Rose figures something out in your quote. You made your typical uninformed, over the top, comment based on the actual play during the first ten games. You thought I was nuts for even thinking 20 was even in the ball park.

If you ever learn to hold yourself accountable for what you actually say - you might quit makink such bold and outlandish statements.

The one calling for Davies to be benched was another classic.

Remember when you put me on ignore and made your experience here better. Do it again. It makes mine grand.

BTW it is only a fast break point if someone SCORES off it.

And if you were following the Cougars as closely as you claim you would know that the media was making a huge deal about Haws starting the season with a string of consecutive games over 20 to start a season - a record. Consecutive. They were running. Carlino was out of synch and stunk.

Then they got away from running as much.

Eventually, after being benched by Rose a few times and piuting enough that some thought he woyld transfer - again - Carlino got the memo.

Kudos to Rose.

Oh my gosh.

He hasn't changed THE WAY HE PLAYS. Of course he has improved. Everyone has improved under the refocused run and gun. Carlino is playing the same style he has always played. There are more people runni.g with him now. If you are going to misinterpret my words at least quote me so that people can see how you have twisted them from their original point.

See the 20 win thread I just pulled up to remind you of your short memory.

This is at least the 2nd time I have had to remind you of that quote.

And it is a quote.

Stop replying to my posts (that I can see when others respond to your replies) calling me out.

Carlino stunk, so they got away from running. That is your logic? Where are those facts to back that up? You have none, because it didn't happen. We started playing a simplistic half court offense that screws the person holding the ball, because no one moves. At all. For 30 seconds. Also, Davies doesn't post every time down the court, so what is supposed to happen with an offense that no one moves and there is no post. The PG either shoots it or turns it over by forcing a pass to a guarded teammate. That is the "offense" that we had. And when Cusick was in, it was the wings that got screwed (Zylstra or Haws), because he would dump the ball off quickly and go hide.

BYU hasn't played uptempo all year, and anyone watching BYU basketball will attest to that. (Wrubell, Shephard, all the guys on twitter. You name it, anyone that watches BYU basketball REGULARLY said a collective FINALLY when we came out running in the second half of the Washington game. But, you weren't watching that game either, I am sure. I don't know why I am arguing with someone that doesn't even watch the games and doesn't even know what he is talking about. Only when Rose realized that Cusick isn't *actually* a point guard (never has the ball in his hands, can't hit free throws, can't guard any point guards one on one, can't bring the ball down court under single pressure) did we start playing really good basketball.

Goodbye. Ignore me too. I would love it if you didn't see my posts and would stop replying to them. Have a good "University of Utah life." I'll send you a Pac 12 sticker on me if you ignore me back and stop cheapshotting me by posting crap to me that I can't see (having you on ignore.)

I looked it up to. I said "team gelling". You don't think that Rose not deciding on a lineup until after the final game has to do with "team gelling?" You are hopeless.

One change that I can argue that Carlino has made is crappy early shots with no rebounding support. But that came often bc as Blue points out, people werent moving in the O (one part of gelling).

It is systemic. Once Rose (yes, a rare criticism from me re Rose) cut loose this offense and threw caution to the wind in the NIT, the whole scheme and team loosened up and all are playing better. REST also afforded this opening full throttle.

Cusick, again, is the Anti-Carlino or visa versa. And Rose got stuck in a stinking thinking mentality that Cusick brought a "steady hand". Calvert should have been out there getting coached up and getting experience. He can also push the tempo and that's how and when this team ROLES!

Bib, you are straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel. Please drop it. And remind me never to argue with you again, bc you look absurd and make Blue almost look absurd by engaging you.

From the King of absurdity, I will take that as a compliment. Re Cusick vs Anybody Else, that was the problem. We did not and do not have anyone better than Carlino was. So when Carlino stunk, BYU stunk.

Sorry - even in the first half vs Washington, Carlino absolutely stunk. The annoucers evencommented a few minutes into the 2nd half that they wondered what Rose said to Carlino at half time because he was an entirely different player.

After the game, Rose was quoted as saying that when Carlino plays well the entire team plays well.

Deseret News articles, Tribune, and even DH - said the same thing. If you want an objective evaluation of something - see what a wide range of people outside the program say and go with that.

Or go back and look at scores game by game and you will see that right from the pre-season games forward, BYU was running and putting up 85-90 points and Haws had his 20+ streak and Carlino stunk. Just like I said. And then BAM - BYU would play a good team like the two in NY, Baylor, etc, and those teams were good enough to shut BYU down because Carlino stunk and BYU had nobody else. Then some bad teams and they scored more. SMC took the heart and soul outof the team. The ship started to creak and sway and drift.

When Carlino plays well, decent teams can no longer take BYU out of their game.

BTW - Austin has also improved.

Those who think this line-up would have worked as well in November as it does now, simply do not understand the value of experience.

Carlino was full of himself and needed to get over it. He finally seems to have done so. Maybe he noticed that the Dave Rose memo sounded a lot like his UCLA memo.

BTW - REST was a huge factor as it is late in the season for any team lacking depth.
